[edit]From Middle High German bilden, bileden, a merger from Old High German biliden, from Proto-West Germanic *biliþijan, and Old High German bilidōn, from Proto-West Germanic *biliþōn, both derived from *biliþī (whence German Bild). By surface analysis, Bild + -en. Cognate with Dutch beelden and Swedish bilda.
