Stomoxys calcitrans biasanya dipanggil lalat kandang (bahasa Inggeris:'stable fly', barn fly, biting house fly, dog fly, atau power mower fly).^[1] Agak luar biasa untuk ahli famili Muscidae yang menghisap darah mamalia. (Jangan dikelirukan dengan pikat (horse fly).)
