- "Well, it's not much to look at, but there it is—Kinooine."
"But... it's so... barren!" - ―Luke Skywalker and Dani
Kinooine was a planet located in Wild Space on the edge of the Unknown Regions. Kinooine served as the main staging point for the Nagai invasion of the galaxy in 4 ABY. A world devoid of sentient life before the Nagai's arrival, Kinooine became the site of two duels between the "Dark Lady of the Sith" Lumiya and Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, who was unable to prevent the Nagai from seizing the planet. After the ultimate Nagai defeat, Kinooine became home to a population of refugee Firrerreo.
Description[]
- "There's plenty of shelter, in case of a storm, or an attack... not that one's likely, on an empty planet. And there's plenty of fresh water for you and me to drink, Dani... and for Kiro to replenish his breathing supply... or relax in..."
- ―Luke Skywalker
Located in the Kinooine system[1] of Wild Space,[1] Kinooine was a barren planet[3] on the edge of the Unknown Regions.[5] Kinooine was a world of rocky caves and mountains, and was almost totally devoid of life. However, the planet's craggy surface held plentiful water and breathable air,[2] and had some native plant life, including a species of pink flowers.[3]
History[]
- "This will be our first stronghold, from which all our future conquests must proceed."
- ―Dal Zorfenn
A desolate, lifeless world, Kinooine suddenly rocketed to the center of galactic intrigue in 4 ABY, when the Alliance of Free Planets began registering mysterious life readings from the planet's surface. The Alliance dispatched a team of 20 scouts to Kinooine to investigate—there, they stumbled upon the forerunners of a galactic invasion. The scout team was ambushed by Lumiya, the "Dark Lady of the Sith," and her lieutenant Den Siva,[2] who had been sent to secure Kinooine as a staging point for a Nagai military force[3] from the nearby Firefist dwarf galaxy.[6] Lumiya and Siva killed 19 of the 20 Alliance scouts,[2] allowing the sole survivor, Faron Tolis, to survive in exchange for his service.[7]
Tolis' commander, Luke Skywalker, soon followed with a small team to investigate the scouts' disappearance, but he and his friends—Alliance agents Dani and Kiro—were ambushed by Lumiya and Siva as well, with Dani kidnapped and tortured and Skywalker bested in a duel. Kiro freed Skywalker from captivity, and Skywalker emerged from Lumiya's underground base to defeat the "Dark Lady" in a rematch. Skywalker's victory coincided with the arrival of the larger Nagai expeditionary force to Kinooine, accompanied by a force of Imperial troops.[7] The Nagai fleet, commanded by Dal Zorfenn, quickly moved to secure the planet, which served as the jumping-off point for a wider war on the Alliance. Hopelessly outnumbered, Skywalker and Dani were forced to flee Kinooine empty-handed, and with the planet firmly in Nagai control.[3]
The Nagai invasion of the galaxy was ultimately unsuccessful, and their fleet mostly returned home afterward.[5]Following the toppling of the Empire Reborn[4] in 14 ABY,[8] a remnant of the Firrerreo people—a Near-Human race that was subjected to a genocide by the Empire[9]—settled on Kinooine. Unlike their fellow remnant on Belderone, they survived the Yuuzhan Vong War.[4]
Inhabitants[]
- "Be sure that there are none besides the Nagai, and our allies and prisoners, alive anywhere on this world."
- ―Cyn Jodu
Although formerly completely devoid of life, in 4 ABY Kinooine overnight became home to a sizable Nagai invasion force, mostly centered out of a series of underground bases originally constructed by advance agents Lumiya and Den Siva. The Nagai also brought along a number of Imperial allies and prisoners to the suddenly populated Kinooine, and added a great amount of infrastructure to the once-desolate world.[3] Although the Nagai population on Kinooine proved to be temporary,[5] Kinooine later became home to a much longer-lasting group of Firrerreo who settled on the world after the fall of the Empire Reborn.[4]
