Rocket boosters,[1] also called rocket thrusters[2] or jets,[3] were twin devices that allowed R2 series astromech droids to fly through the air. The famous droid R2-D2 was equipped with such boosters,[4] and he put them to good use throughout the Clone Wars.[5][6] However, by the time of the Galactic Civil War, R2-D2's boosters had not worked in ages, and his warranty was long expired,[2] having been damaged at some point after the Clone Wars.[7] Despite this fact, R2-D2 was briefly able to get them working again while visiting Endor during the First Order-Resistance war. Also during The Clone Wars two other droids U9-C4 and QT-KT featured rocket boosters. During the Age of the Empire, the C1-series astromech droid Chopper also had a single rocket booster.[8] The dangerous deadly assassin droid BT-1 was equipped with rocket boosters. During The New Republic era the R5-series astromech droid R5-D4 featured a set of rocket boosters that he used to enter and escape Gideon's underground
