Scale and align images

Scaling

The Scaling property for images lets you set how the image should scale when your original image file has different dimensions than your image element. You can select from the following options in the Properties panel:

Resize to fit

The image is scaled as large as possible within the element without cropping or stretching.

Crop to fill

The image is scaled as large as possible to fill the element's space without stretching the image. Images with different proportions than the element are cropped either vertically or horizontally.

None

The image displays at its original size within the element. If the image is larger than the element, the image is cropped.

Stretch to fill

The full image is displayed at the element's dimensions, even if the proportions differ.

Alignment

The Alignment property lets you position the image within the element's boundaries when the dimensions of the element differ from the dimensions of the original image file.

Alignment options

  • center - Aligns the center points of the image and the element.
  • bottom - Aligns the bottom edges of the image and the element.
  • bottom left - Aligns the bottom left corners of the image and the element.
  • bottom right - Aligns the bottom right corners of the image and the element.
  • left - Aligns the left edges of the image and the element.
  • right - Aligns the right edges of the image and the element.
  • top - Aligns the top edges of the image and the element.
  • top left - Aligns the top left corners of the image and the element.
  • top right - Aligns the top right corners of the image and the element.

Alignment options are disabled if you enable a focal point (see the next section).

Focal points

A focal point automatically aligns an image to keep a key part of the image visible, even when the image gets resized. Learn more.
