A rescue mission to save Jetfire reveals a secret Decepticon operation.

Contents

Synopsis

As Optimus Prime and Hot Rod contemplate Megatron's motives since his acquiring of a Matrix of Leadership, Arcee and Whirl have nothing to report. Jetfire initially has the same, but is hit by an energy blast that robs him of his wings, sending him plummeting.

As Rack'n'Ruin load a shuttle, they compliment each other on their crate-stacking before the craft suddenly takes off, causing the crate stack to collapse on top of them. As it turns out, Ratchet is taking the ship on a mission to rescue Jetfire. The medic is very surprised to find Rack'n'Ruin onboard, but has no choice but to take them along for the mission, much to their joy and his annoyance.

As Jetfire wakes up, he notices his wings are back... only to find his legs have now disappeared! His screaming leads Ratchet and Rack'n'Ruin straight to him, but they find him walking around aimlessly with his head missing. Ratchet instructs them to search for his head... only for it to appear out of nowhere. As he explains his dilemma, his arms disappear. As it turns out, Jetfire's body parts are existing at different quantum frequencies, caused by a strange Decepticon weapon. The medic sends Rack'n'Ruin to fetch a purple stabilizer. When the two emerge from the ship debating over the color of the device, Astrotrain and Dead End beat them to their comrades, kidnapping them.

Making their way to a secret Decepticon facility, Rack'n'Ruin sneak their way to the door unnoticed... or so they think. In actuality, they crawl to the door in plain sight, and are easily captured by Soundwave and Shadow Striker. As it turns out, the two high-ranking Decepticons are also clueless about the facility, and after a failed interrogation, they let the duo loose as a way to sneak inside.

Inside, Dead End and Astrotrain have strapped their prisoners to large slabs for weapon testing... and they have a ray aimed straight at Ratchet. Rack'n'Ruin attempt to blast Astrotrain, but the giant Decepticon merely grows annoyed and throws the conjoined twins into the control panel, causing the ray to randomly blast objects into unspace. The two manage to annoy Astrotrain enough that he inadvertently destroys the control panel and knocks the ray off-course, causing it to go berserk and send Ratchet's platform into unspace. Rack'n'Ruin throw the stabilizer to Ratchet, while the ray hits the door as a tug-of-war breaks out between Ratchet and Dead End, revealing Shadow Striker and Soundwave trying to break in.

While the Decepticons are distracted with the haywire multiverse ray (not to mention each other), Ratchet heals Jetfire before they and Rack'n'Ruin make a break for it. The ray hits Astrotrain, sending him into unspace. Gleeful that the weapon worked, Astrotrain opens a portal back to his new universe just in time to see the Autobots escape. All three are congratulated by Optimus, celebrating with a three-way high-five.

(Jetfire's head reappears)
"Never mind."

Ratchet

"Ratchet and Jetfire are in there."
"Time to pay Ratchet a house call. Cause he's a doctor."
"Yeah. And time to pay Jetfire a... jet call?"
"Yeah. Cause he's a jet."

Rack and Ruin need to work on their one-liners.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • As it turns out, Optimus and Hot Rod are suspicious of Megatron's recent behavior, which was first shown in "The End Of The Universe IV".
  • Coincidentally, they are not the only ones, as high-ranking Decepticons like Soundwave and Shadow Striker have also taken notice, which would be further explored in "Silent Strike".
  • The weapon Astrotrain and Dead End are working on seems to be connected with the coming threat of "the Other One", who was mentioned back in "Enemy Line" as Astrotrain's former master.
  • This episode brings back the Rack'n'Ruin box-stacking gag from season 2, last seen in "Perfect Storm".
