Inspiration for these blogs comes from Jim Collins book “Good to Great” a book on Jeff Bezos recommended list which inspired Amazon “Flywheel”. So the fifth step outlined in “Good To Great” is developing a "Culture of Discipline" on your Cloud Marketplace journey. 🏛 So you have the recognized the need for your C Suite to be involved in your pursuit of winning in Cloud Marketplaces. 💡Your company decided “Who” is going to lead your Cloud Marketplace and they have figured out what your are going to Build-Market-Sell on Cloud Marketplaces with a team of disciplined people. 🗨 Your company have considered the brutal facts, developed a narrative for your Cloud Marketplace, a detailed document to inform all stakeholders of the strategy. 🦔 Your company defined your Cloud Marketplace hedgehog concept, again which is at the intersection of these three questions! ✔What do you feel most passionate about? ✔What can you be best in the world at? ✔What drives your economic engine? ⚙ We now need to move to the discipline of action. Eliminate the need for bureaucracy (stay agile), there's no need to excessively control the actions of your people because they have disciplined thought and action.     🎯 Most companies will be challenged with Cloud Marketplaces, not because of the lack of opportunity, but because there is too much potential opportunity, undisciplined people getting distracted pushing and pulling in different directions. A culture of discipline means having a focused team full of people who will take action consistent with the Hedgehog principle. ❌ Don't make the mistake of many executives mistaking control for discipline.     To support the culture of discipline, you can do five things: ▶  Build a culture of freedom and responsibility (framework) and let people decide for themselves how to act.   ▶ Get the right type of people on board.   ▶ Build a strong Cloud Go-To-Market culture. ▶ Focus on your Hedgehog concept. What you’re best at! Deeply Passionate about and the economic engine i.e value your solution drives.  ▶ Avoid creating endless lists and incorporating irrelevant marketing tactics, instead stick resolutely to the Hedgehog concept.     Chief Analyst - Channels, Partnerships & Ecosystems - Canalys - Channel Influencer of the Year

    It is fascinating to watch the career progression of over 10 million channel, partner & alliance professionals. As of today, there are 15,000 partnering professionals using "ecosystem" in their title on LinkedIn with an incredible 826,000 using the word to describe what they do! At the top of the leadership chain, Canalys recognizes 35,000 "channel chiefs" across the vendor community. There is a long-tail (north of 20k) of chiefs who don't have any direct reports while some the largest vendor organizations have Chief Partner Officers with thousands of employees. I will be joining Kelly Sarabyn and Scott Brinker (from HubSpot), and Asher Mathew (from Partnership Leaders) in a discussion about chief partner officers and how it applies to platform business models, the future of marketplaces, cross-ecosystem collaborations, and the internal alignment needed to optimize outcomes in this platform ecosystem next week!
