  • Can not wait for this conference tomorrow!! 🤩 A rare conference that really is teachers helping teachers!

D&T Subject Specialist Associate at Inspiration Trust

Today is set up day at University of East Anglia - tomorrow we welcome 42 speakers, over 60 industry specialists and more importantly 288ish D&T teachers and technicians. When we set out to run this conference, I was hoping for 100 maybe ? This is a reflection of the need to get back to the face to face. It also reflects the passion for our subject that staff have- especially at the end of a long year in schools. There is a lot written about the seriousness of where D&T finds itself -recruitment, actual content of what we teach and what the subject is, even down to the national qualifications. These questions are important… but tomorrow is about getting together and being a community again. It is an absolute privilege and delight to be able to support our wonderful D&T National Community. If your are coming tomorrow - defo say hi! If you can’t make it, we will have a date for you for next year! Follow us tomorrow as Inspiration Trust will be posting updates and pictures! #THEBIGDTMeet #DTcommunity

As I continue to rewind through season 2 of The International Classroom, Innovating Education Across Borders features insights from Mark Ryan (NPQML) and the brilliant minds behind the UK's Inventor Club, Aaron Patching and Ben Edmonds. Speaking with all of these guys has impacted my approach to teaching this year, so in the interest of sharing, what's the most innovative teaching practice you've encountered or implemented? How did it impact your students? Let's keep these international conversations going. 🔗 Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/dc7DnC22 #InnovativeEducation #GlobalLearning #STEAM #DesignandTechnology #TeacherCommunity

  • This is exactly why we do what we do! 💪 A lot of our work this year has revolved around CPD and training teachers to be creative with their students. One of the big events we did this year was at a conference in Bucharest and it’s clear to see that session has been put to good use. Matthew Wemyss set his students a complex and open ended problem to solve and guided them through the design process, using AI and other technologies to help them create ideas. Which then led into their modelling phase to bring those ideas to life. We look forward to returning to the Bucharest in October to do more of this!

📢 Hands-on innovation in Year 10! 🛠️ Our Year 10 students just wrapped up the creating phase of the "Ideas Lab," where they've been tackling real-world problems through the design-thinking process. Their challenge? Create tech that makes life easier for people with different needs. 💡 From brainstorming to building their first prototypes, they're proving that Digital Literacy is more than just screens – it's about using technology to create positive change. #IdeasLab #DesignThinking #Innovation #Accessibility #DigitalLiteracy #STEM

  • 📖✅Life is made of lots of little and large projects! We wholeheartedly believe in allowing students to tackle multiple tasks and small scale projects to allow them to grow the nessesary generalist skills they will need for the future. No one knows this better than entrepreneurs! 🤔What types of projects do you allow your students to tackle?

Do 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀 solve the 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱´𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀? Certainly not? 😩 So why are we so obsessed with students getting A* The inspiration I took from a business challenge when I was at school was far greater than any grades I got. Not once have I had to use my grades at an interview. Yet, I have always had to explain how I can help them solve a problem. • Innovation comes in many forms 💻 We don't just "DO" DT, we focus on being innovative and keeping our eye on the horizon, what ever that may look like. Its fair to say that AI definitely fits in that bracket! We recently held an "open to all" schools AI training event in both Swindon and Gloucester, which was amazing to see so many teachers taking their CPD seriously and spending an evening learning about the potential of responsible AI use.

  • We absolutely love getting feedback from the sessions we run! 🚀 This particular INSET day was for over 70 staff and the positivity we received from them all was overwhelming! There was teachers, teaching assistants, support staff, estates, front office and every single team came away with clear action points of how they were going to move forward! Thank you for having us Manor Lodge School! Ben Edmonds Aaron Patching

  • 💪“It’s ok to fail, as long as you have the resilience to succeed” If there is a quote that summarises everything we do at inventor club it’s this! We often get asked if it is just engineering or DT that we do, when in actual fact alot of what we discuss is mindset and using design as the process for how we teach it.
