There is no such breed or quasi-breed as the "Irish Horse." The article is incorrect.
[edit]An "Irish Horse" is naught more than just that - a horse bred in Ireland of any ancestry or breeding whatsoever. According to the Irish Horse Board [1], the entity created by the Irish Department of Agricultural and Food in 1993, to license and control the export of Irish-bred horses, the "Irish Sport Horse," while traditionally a cross between the Irish Draught and the Thoroughbred has, over the past 20 years, evolved into a type of horse, incorporating the Draught, the Throughbred and very frequently European Warmbloods. The top-ranked 2005 Irish Showjumping horse, McGuinness, registered as an "Irish Sport Horse" is actually by a Holsteiner (German breed) stallion, Cavalier Royale[2]. The "Irish Sport Horse Studbook," maintained by the Irish Horse Board, is an agricultural registry, and should not be confused (although it frequently is) with a breed registry. There is no breed or type of horse called "the Irish Horse." The editor that chose to move or merge the Irish Sport Horse wiki erred, and the wiki should be returned to its proper place as "Irish Sport Horse" (Sport, singular, not plural, please).

WBFSH rankings
[edit]In updating the claim about WBFSH I cannot easily find pre 2004 rankings to verify the article's previous claim that they won for the 13th consecutive time in 2006.
I've made the wording less precise to be sure it is accurate. The rankings on their website now are for 2004-2012. Of those 9 they won 7, came 2nd once and 3rd once. Assuming the previous unsourced version is true I'd rather replace it with a more precise sentence like "of the 20 years that the WBFSH has published rankings, the ISH has won 18 times", but I don't see reliable data for the first 10.Tangledweb (talk) 06:39, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Article improvement drive
[edit]I agree the photos aren't great. but they are the best of what's at commons. We have this problem at a lot of breed articles, the requirement for free licensed images makes it tought o get good ones. Sometimes a search of Flickr for cc-licensed images can locate more, but usually it's a disappointment because all the good ones have a copyright slapped on them; sometimes people can be contacted to alter their licenses, but I haven't done so myself. - If it's of any help, this photo shows a free-standing ISH. Wasechun tashunka (talk) 19:37, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
