Any obscure observatories, please let me know.
List of observatories
[edit]Hey, it looks like you speek other languages. I've been working on many different observatories and keep running into page translation errors. Can you help?--Rayc 16:14, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Creighton 1893.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Creighton 1893.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 13:37, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
I've been doing a lot of work on this list over the past few months and I am considering nominating it at Featured list candidates. You seem to have done some work on observatory articles so I wanted to ask your opinion on the list and see if you had any suggestions on how to make it better. Specifically, I would be interested in your thoughts on the "date established" column and whether you think it is unnecessary and if you can think of any major observatories not included in the list. Thanks! --Nebular110 18:48, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Great, thanks for the feedback. I'll probably nominate it sometime over the weekend when I have more time to prepare a nice nomination. --Nebular110 16:13, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks!
[edit]Thanks for the barnstar and for your help on the list as well. Some good points were raised during the nomination, hopefully we can address these and then think about trying again in a few months. --Nebular110 04:42, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Welcome!
[edit]Hi, and welcome to the Biography WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of biographies.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure tips outlines some things to include.
- Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every biography article in Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! plange 04:06, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for contacting me. I came across this bio article because of its addition to the list of notable alumni in the University of North Dakota article. The Smith bio seemed very short and one section ("See also") was even empty. The biography template you mentioned is a sample layout" and all bios need not necessarily adhere to it fully. Feel free to revert the page back to your previous version if you desire. Personally, I would rather see the article expanded before we break it up into so many sections. If you have any further comments, don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page. Thanks! --MatthewUND(talk) 23:49, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- One more comment. You say "it will grow and the areas would be filled in". That isn't really how Wikipedia articles should be developed. Section breaks really shouldn't be added until more information is also added and individual sections are warranted. An article's development should be organic in nature and blank or very small sections shouldn't be added with the expectation that they will "fill in". --MatthewUND(talk) 23:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies
[edit]Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 20:11, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Biography Summer 2007 Assessment Drive
[edit]WikiProject Biography is holding a three month long assessment drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unassessed articles. The drive is running from June 1, 2007 – September 1, 2007.
Awards to be won range from delicacies such as the WikiCookie to the great Golden Wiki Award.
There are over 110,000 articles to assess so please visit the drive's page and help out!
This drive was conceived of and organized by Psychless with the help of Ozgod. Regards, Psychless Type words!.
WikiProject Wikify
[edit]Hi there! I thought you might be interested in WikiProject Wikify. We're currently recruiting help to clear a massive backlog ({{subst:PAGESINCATEGORY:All articles covered by WikiProject Wikify}} articles), and we need your help! If you have a spare moment, please join and wikify an article or tell your friends. ~~~~ |
The reason I'm inviting you is you expressed an interest in adding the WPBiography tag bio articles to bio articles that don't have it. Most of the bio articles that need to be wikified also don't have a bio tag - and if they do, it's incomplete. RedRollerskate 13:13, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Your editing assistance appreciated
[edit]Hi there -- some months ago you e-mailed me about edits to the Wikipedia bio someone else created for me; I can't remember if I e-mailed you back or not, but I've since misplaced your e-mail address. Would you mind contacting me again? Thanks, and best wishes, Amy Argetsinger —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.64.158.179 (talk) 20:29, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

Online Ambassador for Wikipedia Education Program
[edit]Hi, AppleRaven!
I'm writing you to see if you're interested in joining the Wikipedia Education Program as an Online Ambassador. Our program is growing, but we want to make sure students still get the support new users need when they begin editing Wikipedia. I've been speaking to a few professors at Georgetown who are interested in joining for Fall 2012, but they will need an Online Ambassador. In this role, experienced editors essentially contact students with editing tips, respond to questions they may have, and even monitor student contributions to provide feedback. If you're interested in working with our program and these students, please email me at jmathewsonwikimedia.org. Thanks! JMathewson (WMF) (talk) 18:23, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for August 2
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Carrier Strike Group Five, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mark Montgomery (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
