From 1 to 28 February 2018 Women in Red are hosting a virtual editathon on Mathematicians and Statisticians, providing an opportunity for you to create or improve articles on past or present mathematicians and statisticians, including coverage of their achievements, writings, organizations, and awards.
The virtual edit-a-thon allows enthusiasts from around the globe to participate in the work.
- The lists of redlinks below should provide inspiration.
- This essay on creating women's biographies might be helpful to newer editors. Marie Vitulli of the University of Oregon has also written an interesting introductory article on [1] outlining a number of problems encountered in a recent editathon.
- The main goals of the event are:
- to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of some of the world's most prominent women
- to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on a specific area
- to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
- to promote the new/improved articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter)
