The Transportation Department just fined JetBlue $2 million for chronic flight delays. It's the first time ever that DOT has penalized an airline for chronically delayed flights, per the department. $1 million is going to JetBlue customers affected by the chronic delays, or who will be affected by such delays in the next year, DOT said in a statement. Half goes directly to the U.S. Treasury. In a statement to Axios, JetBlue said that the company is complying with the penalty, but that "accountability for reliable air travel equally lies with the U.S. government, which operates our nation's air traffic control system." I spent part of the holidays thinking about which LLM is going to win the generative AI video race. I played with OpenAI's Sora and watched a ton of videos people generated using Google's Veo 2, Runway, Kuaishou Technology's Kling AI and Tencent's Hunyuan. GenAI video tools could save time and money for filmmakers, but they could also unleash novel copyright issues and a flood of deepfakes, and use magnitudes more energy than text generators, which are already straining the power grid.
