December 6th was a day to remember!!! I attended the 8th annual Women + Media Career Summit presented in partnership with BRIC (Arts & Media in Brooklyn). I was fortunate enough to hear from many amazing voices and their backgrounds. Meeting new people and catching up with some old friends is always a pleasure. Being surrounded by women and attending all-women panels puts into perspective how far women have came in the media industry and how much further they will make it in the future. It was interesting and inspiring how each of them overcame hardships of not only gender but being a minority in such a vast industry. Thank you to Center for Communication and BRIC (Arts & Media in Brooklyn) for hosting an amazing event!!

Another one for the books! Last Friday, BRIC hosted our wonderful friends from Center for Communication for their 8th annual Women + Media Career Summit. What an incredible event for college students to learn from industry leaders on getting started in a career in media! So many inspiring speakers, including our very own Saidah Blount, who was on the early career panel, and Carmen Julia Hernandez who gave some incredible introductory remarks. We met dozens of excited students, and then saw them sign up for our media classes right there on the spot during the career networking session in the gallery! Special thanks to J. Max Robins, Erin Gromen, Kate Stanley, Camila B., and the entire Center for Communication team for their partnership on such valuable and mission aligned events. Looking forward to the next one in 2025! Huge thanks to David Francois, Bella Carlos, Hallie Patterson, Fred Brown, Mitali Sonar, Kaylee L., Ian Thake, Tony Horn, Clinton Philson Jr.

Executive Assistant | Media Industry Enthusiast | MS in Media Management Candidate at Fordham Gabelli School of Business

A few weeks ago, I attended the Center of Communication Stanton Awards and learned about the 8th Annual Diversity + Media Career Summit, presented in partnership with BRIC (Arts & Media in Brooklyn), which took place last Friday. This all-day conference featured keynotes, panels, and skill workshops with: ⚡️ Carole Robinson (Chief Communications Officer at Nielsen) ⚡️ Marianne Gambelli (Former President of Ad-Sales at Fox Corporation) ⚡️ Savalle Sims (Chief Legal Officer at Warner Bros. Discovery) ⚡️ Noel Claro (Product Creative Strategist at Netflix) ⚡️ Saidah Blount (Executive Director, Celebrate Brooklyn!, BRIC (Arts & Media in Brooklyn)) ⚡️ Michelle Green (Manager, Audience Impact & Intelligence, Paramount) ⚡️ Alia Jones-Harvey (Associate Commissioner of Education and Workforce Development, NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment) ⚡️ Jacqueline Shaheed (Early Careers Manager, Warner Bros. Discovery) The conference was packed with media industry enthusiasts, professionals, students, and recent graduates interested in the media industry. The big questions of the day involved *pivoting* and *imposter syndrome*, and how to combat them in our career journeys. Seasoned professionals gently noted that these feelings don't quite go away but provided us with sage advice to keep showing up and doing the work, owning who you are and owning your experience. I appreciated hearing from professionals at various stages of their careers, sharing their linear and non-linear journeys into the media industry, illustrating that there is no one road that fits all, but you can still and will reach your destination through grit, grind, and growth, as Jacqueline shared. Industry professionals from all areas of media demonstrated that the creativity of communication and the power of storytelling is applicable in finance, legal, design, architecture, strategy, software development, and more - showing that the convergence of the media industry is limitless. We are all creators, and that's why this industry is so special to me and to the auditorium full of aspiring media industry professionals. Bravo to the Center for Communication! I look forward to attending and possibly working at your future summits. Keep up the amazing work!

What an incredible day at the 8th Annual Women + Media Summit hosted by the Center for Communication in partnership with BRIC (Arts & Media in Brooklyn) 🎉 The event was a huge success, and hearing from so many inspiring women in media was not only insightful but truly a blessing. Coming from Ireland 🇮🇪, opportunities like this—to be in rooms filled with media professionals and like-minded peers—are rare, so I feel incredibly grateful to have experienced it here in NYC. 🗽 I left with so many valuable takeaways: the importance of building a personal brand 🌟, the need to keep up-skilling 📚, tackling imposter syndrome 💭, and staying ambitious no matter what. Saidah Blount’s words about choosing yourself really struck a chord with me. As someone who just moved across the world to NYC to chase my dreams of working in media, I’ve had to embrace change and truly bet on myself—a message that will stick with me as I continue my job search journey here. One of the best parts of the event was the focus on peer-to-peer support🤝. While it’s amazing to connect with professionals, the power of building relationships with peers can’t be overlooked. The peer-to-peer session allowed me to not only make meaningful connections but also genuine friendships—something I’ll carry with me as I navigate this new chapter. A huge thank you to everyone who organized this event and to the phenomenal women I met throughout the day. Here’s to choosing ourselves, embracing change, and lifting each other up as we grow! 💪✨ #WomenInMedia #Networking #NYC #PersonalGrowth #ChooseYourself #PeerSupport #CareerDevelopment 🎥🎤
