Happy last day of the semester! We recently got to celebrate the end of the semester with our The City University of New York (CUNY) ambassadors in an in-person gathering to highlight their shared efforts for advocating for the Jobs Council. Our student ambassadors are a key asset to the Jobs Council. Acting as an extension of us, they work to build rapport and community to share Jobs Council resources for students seeking opportunities to become career-ready. William Wang is a proud Brooklyn College alum who studied Business Management and Finance, paving the way for a successful career in banking. When William first started college, he wasn’t sure what his career path would look like. But with guidance from Brooklyn College’s [Magner] Career Center—through career counseling, job fairs, and a pivotal recruiting event—he found his direction. Starting as a Part-Time Teller during college, William’s 19-year journey in retail banking has included roles as a Personal Banker, Business Specialist, Branch Manager, and now Store Manager 3 at TD. Each step in his career has contributed to his success. As an immigrant from China who grew up in New York City, William brings a unique perspective on inclusion and diversity. Inspired by his parents’ perseverance in overcoming challenges as immigrants, he’s passionate about fostering diverse and dynamic teams. William mentors his team members with the same determination, helping them reach their full potential. Reflecting on his experience, William says, “I have found that TD Bank exemplifies all the beliefs and values in a financial institution that I share. The most valuable assets to a company are their people.” Check out our #MAKEITHERENYC advertisements throughout NYC, if you see them, tag us! Today’s #tipstuesday is a reminder that MINGLING is not NETWORKING Here are a few questions to bring to your next networking session👇 - How did you get started in this field? Was this your first career choice? - What’s the most challenging aspect of your role? - What trends do you think are shaping the future of this industry? - How have you approached professional development over the years? - Are there any professional organizations or events you recommend joining or attending? - What opportunities should I seek early in my career to grow? Reminder: Use a conversational style rather than an interview style. To help make it more conversational, please try to relate to how industry professionals answer. Remember to follow up with a thank you note. Want to join a networking event? Follow us on Handshake (New York Jobs CEO Council) to be the first to hear about our future events. https://lnkd.in/eRYxyWFD

Last week, I had the privilege of attending two incredible events that celebrated and highlighted the importance of women in leadership within the technology and media industries. At the Women in Data fireside chat hosted by McKinsey & Company and the New York Jobs CEO Council, I had the pleasure of hearing Baruch alum Jacky Wright, Chief Technology and Platform Officer at McKinsey, in conversation with Erika Carlson, Cheryl Littman, and Kendell Timmers. The discussion emphasized the transformative role of technology across industries and the significance of data in driving logical decision-making. One moment that resonated deeply with me was when Jacky Wright shared, "Change can only be made with a series of small steps and resilience." This reminder to challenge the status quo, claim your seat at the table, and consistently seek growth was especially meaningful. Her words inspire me to cultivate resilience as a foundation for success. At the Women + Media Career Summit hosted by the Center for Communication and BRIC (Arts & Media in Brooklyn), I gained invaluable insights from media professionals about navigating career pivots and embracing change. Most importantly, the power of grit and perseverance. As a proud advocate for women in leadership, I’m committed to advancing inclusivity and representation in technology and media. These events reinforced the importance of creating environments where women can thrive, lead, and innovate! ✨
