Vision: A world without cycles of unjust poverty where resilience & hope are cultivated in marginalized communities.
About us
We create and connect organizations that cultivate local, independent agricultural businesses in fragile, conflict-impacted communities. We address global food insecurity at the source by working with some of the world’s most marginalized rural communities. These communities are exceptionally vulnerable to poverty, conflict, and climate change. We equip both communities and individuals to build resilience and prosperity through sustainable agricultural businesses.

Empowering women economically often strengthens household financial security, reduces poverty, and improves children’s welfare. Nuru Burkina Faso ensures that women are involved in interventions with local communities. Nuru Burkina Faso Executive Director Aïssetou notes that increased economic independence can disrupt traditional household dynamics though, and in some cases this creates resistance from men in the community. "To mitigate this, Nuru sensitizes men through campaigns or sessions with men and local leaders to raise awareness of the benefits of women’s involvement," Aïssetou shares. Women's empowerment is front and center for the Tiligre Initiative for Farmer’s Resilience (TIFR). Funded by USAID and implemented by Nuru Burkina Faso, TIFR focuses on women's inclusion and aims for women to have equal access to resources, training, and leadership opportunities in compliance with USAID gender equality standards. 🌱 Read on to learn how Nuru Burkina Faso develops women's leadership through TIFR: https://loom.ly/Dl-KndI #WomenLeaders #InvestInWomen #Agriculture #NuruBurkinaFaso #PlantingHope

As growing divisions ignite local, national, and international conflict, we see hope as a courageous and counter-intuitive choice. At Nuru, we choose to plant seeds of hope because together we witness its fruit. In communities that were once considered a lost cause, people are creating thriving businesses together. Farmers are adapting to climate change to grow more crops. Families have money to access education and medical care. When you give, you make it possible for hope to continue growing and spreading. Your donation equips more vulnerable communities to thrive with hope. Will you join us in this hope? Will you make a year-end donation today? Every donation is being matched up to $150,000! #IAmNuru #PlantHope

When you give to Nuru, you make it possible for other farmers to have this opportunity. Will you help plant hope during this holiday season? Every dollar you donate now will be matched up to $150,000! 🎁 Give today: https://loom.ly/u1bmhR4 #HopeIsGrowing #IAmNuru #PlantHope

Excellent learning experience co-authoring a chapter in 📚 Community-Led Development in Practice 🌍 in Part IV: Accountability/Sustainability and Exit Strategies with Amy Gaman Simon Eli Pauline W. Abiy Meshesha and Matt Lineal. Many thanks to The Movement for Community-led Development for the opportunity! At Nuru, we spent the better part of a year sharing research, organizing and aligning experiences, co-editing, and leveraging Nuru Collective systems to co-author a chapter that provides examples for the four principles of accountability in locally-led development: 🔁 Accountability is multi-directional 📊 Accountability is dynamic 📍 Accountability is endemic 🌍 Accountability is complex Final thanks to my co-authors who made this chapter possible!
