Some valuable insights shared from two of the best minds in ed-tech Lyman Missimer and Jomayra Herrera at Owl Ventures and at Reach Capital 1. Finding product market fit that results in at least $5M of ARR and profitability is an important factor in making an acquisition attractive enough for a buyer 2. Transactions rarely happen overnight. Intentionally networking with potential strategic partners and finding ways to collaborate can greatly enhance trust between management teams and increase the likelihood that a partnership could materialize into an acquisition that benefits both parties 3. AI is not a product category. It is a technology that can be leveraged to solve a problem or set of problems. Companies that are most likely to succeed will understand how to leverage this technology to solve a problem at scale. It's still early days in terms of what those business models will be and how open districts are to utilize the tech. But perhaps the greatest unknown is what will their capacity be to enact policies and guardrails to protect students and teachers from the unintended consequences of AI #edtech #AI

I am #READY! Here's what I learned: - Gained a deeper understanding of board roles and responsibilities, including financial reporting, corporate strategy, CEO performance, and regulatory compliance. - Discovered the best professional pathways to influential boards. - Developed a detailed personal action plan for securing the right board seat and advancing board service. - Learned proven techniques for becoming known to nominating committees. - Understood the board interview and onboarding process. - Heard from sitting board members about how they found their best voice at the table. What I valued the most about the course: 1) Women board members contribute to higher-performing organizations! YES and YES 2) How to become an effective board member and the unique perspectives women bring to the table. 3) Learned about the characteristics of different types of boards, including nonprofit, private, startup, and corporate. 4) Developed a personal board strategy and action plan, identifying the skills and background boards are looking for, my strengths, and areas for improvement. 5) Practiced focused networking techniques and forged influential relationships with other board members and management. New experiment: can a conversation with AI help uncover and rate your skill level? Read the post and give it a try for yourself! Our first iteration of this experiment was no good at all. Felt like you were being asked 40 difficult questions by an intense interviewer. But after lots of iterations, it was another AI "wow" moment for me. The conversation felt natural, casual, and the AI's ability to touch on the underlying criteria without feeling like you were being assessed was really impressive. Engagement in Schools: A Key to Gen Z's Future Gallup's latest survey reveals that U.S. K-12 schools are struggling to engage Gen Z students. Key findings include: ➖ 25-54% of students report lacking engaging school experiences. ➖ Only 46% feel their schoolwork aligns with their strengths. ➖ Students in the top 25% of engagement are 4x more likely to feel optimistic about their future. The integration of #AI into K12 education provides a pathway to solving COVID-related learning loss at scale. A decade ago, as a Teach For America Corps member, I began using early versions of “technology + teaching” in my classrooms with nascent tools like Freckle by Renaissance and Newsela. Although early personalization efforts were time-intensive, these tools enhanced my ability to tailor assignments to my individual students’ needs, leading to significant gains in a short period of time. Fast forward to today - #AI is revolutionizing #K12 by analyzing students' learning patterns and adapting content, at a fraction of the time, reducing teacher workloads by up to 30%. If you do not follow Paul Fain and you are interested in the state of workforce and education, you should. His most recent podcast episode was an interesting discussion about the transitions in the economy and workforce related to AI. They discussed a transition from the pedigree economy to the relationship economy. The premise of this belief is that as AI advances, educational pedigrees will become less important and the knowledge and skills to solve challenges through relationships will become more important. Give it a listen and and I’m interested to hear your thoughts. As people dismiss the importance of liberal arts in higher education, does this offer a counter narrative? How does education (K-20+) play a role in developing the relationship skills/ networks to help people continue to connect to opportunities and empower themselves for economic mobility?

Ben Kornell and the Edtech Insiders team provide a really nice summary of recent education related launches from Google and MS. #Freemium #D2C or #enterprise - which strategy will win? Fascinating. “It’s telling that parents and learners seem to be the audience for OpenAI demos, and not traditional education buyers like administrators, teachers, professors, etc. (especially when Google’s Gemini for Education features aren’t even available for students under 18). OpenAI’s demos were staged in a living room context, while Google’s education use cases were almost all based in the classroom.” 🤔 Google OpenAI

Have you ever worked with a consultant that made your life immeasurably better? If you haven't, and you need help with Salesforce, Campaign Monitor, finding the right software, or generally improving your Digital Operations, I cannot recommend Percolator Consulting more highly. The more I learn about #edtech, the more I realize its transformative power across all generations and educational stages. There is so much potential to continue transforming #edtech to support every student. To understand how Cengage Group can continue driving this transformation, I’ve had countless conversations with partners, customers, colleagues and the industry, which have led me to a few key observations: Today’s students are digital natives – their proficiency with technology creates both opportunities and challenges for edtech developers. Many educators understand the value of technology in education – especially GenAI -- but adoption is slow. Our role is to close those gaps and help educators deliver greater value to students. We must design products for a wide spectrum of learners – from tech-savvy youngsters to adult learners returning to education.
