If you have a small audience, don't sell a low-ticket product. This is counterintuitive for most beginners, but low-ticket products are a volume game. If you have a small audience, you can't win a volume game. You're better off starting with a higher-priced product (which requires higher impact and maybe higher touch). These require high trust to sell, but in the beginning, you can lean in and nurture relationships with your small but mighty following. This will fund your early days as you build an audience through high-quality, free content. Eventually, you can play (and win) volume games, too.

Rule of thumb: If you pay someone $50k per year, you should be making a minimum of $175k from their labor. I see agency owners make the mistake far too often. If you want a healthy business, you need a 3.5x return for each employee. If you have an hourly-billing pricing model especially, you need to make sure you’re hitting that 3.5x benchmark.

So many of us obsess over outcomes: ​ - Getting more Instagram followers  - Landing new clients - Receiving job offers ​ But focusing on outcomes is a trap. You can't control them directly.  ​ What you CAN control are your daily habits: ​ - Posting engaging content consistently - Sending personalized cold DMs to prospects - Networking and applying to opportunities ​ Outcomes are lagging indicators. Habits are the leading ones.  ​ Followers, clients, and job offers are the RESULT of disciplined daily actions.  ​ Not the other way around. ​ So focus on winning days, not outcomes.  ​ Stack up enough winning days through the right habits, and the outcomes take care of themselves.

I’ve basically stopped caring about audience growth. It’s happening as a byproduct of making content, but I'm focusing elsewhere... Right now, I want to get more out of my existing assets. I want to make it easier for people to navigate my existing body of work (and products). Here’s a real example from this weekend of this at work: Visitor landed on CreatorHQ sales page ⇣ Visitor purchased CreatorHQ ⇣ Visitor got a follow-up email. In the footer, it promises a “personalized offer” if they answer a few questions. ⇣ Visitor answered those questions and got an offer for Build A Beloved Membership ⇣ Visitor purchased that course. At checkout, the visitor was presented with an Order Bump (offer) to bundle in my Newsletter Masterclass. ⇣ Visitor added that course to the order I designed this system months ago, and it turned a $297 sale into $650 (without my involvement). Feels like magic when the customer journey you sketched out works! And by focusing on these systems, any audience growth that *does* occur will provide for a better experience and will have a higher customer LTV. Focusing on publishing and getting reps is important if you're still finding your footing. But at some point, "better" is more impactful than "more."

Editing your own podcast is probably costing you $1500+/month. I talked to a business owner recently who said he spent up to an entire day editing his company's podcast. At $100k/year, that's over $1500/month of opportunity cost for a weekly show. At $200k/year it's $3000+. Not to mention the time to prep, record, change gears after recording to get back into other types of work, etc. But it gets worse... The opposite ditch is paying someone on your team to do it who: 1. Doesn't have the time 2. Doesn't have the expertise (in audio/video editing, nevermind graphic design, short-form social media content, etc.) 3. Doesn't prioritize it You'll end up wasting the salary you're paying them, AND getting a worse product, AND hurting your brand's image. Yes, podcasting can usually help your business. No, you can't duct tape it on as an after-thought. If you want podcasting to be a useful part of your funnel to nurture your audience, make sure it's taken care of by a team that has the capacity to do a good job. It'll probably SAVE you money to spend on this.

I Just "Lost" an FBM Client... And I'm Actually Happy About It. Here’s why: I took on a new FBM client last week. Exciting, right? But within a week, I had to part ways. Red flags showed early: → Slow shipping times → Disorganized inventory → Constant changes to product listings They admitted fulfillment wasn’t a priority. It’s a downside of working with FBM clients who aren't committed. But I learned a lot: → Always clarify fulfillment expectations. → Set boundaries early. → Not every client is a good fit for FBM. Most advice I've heard these days is that brand accounts on social media are generally pretty useless. And it's true that brand accounts are much less likely to build up a high follower count or create viral posts than a real person. Anecdotally, my posts on LI typically do 10x better than the posts from our Relay.app account. But, there's one thing brand accounts are really good for! When users organically mention your product, they'll usually tag the brand account, which creates a great opportunity to engage that user and their network. Here's an example in which one of our customers tweeted something nice about us and I followed up and booked demo with another real estate agent, who had started the original thread. Great way to amplify word of mouth and personal recommendations!
