Executive Vice President and General Manager at Oracle EMEA Applications

Bring a customer on stage to talk about technology in Financial Services they said. So obviously, I invited Christopher Murtagh from the UK government’s Synergy project for a chat.   I think a few folk wondered why the project to unify the #finance and #HR systems of the four biggest departments of central government would have lessons for banks. What can they learn from the public sector?   Once Chris was speaking, it became clear. This is a major business change. It will require some 250,000 civil servants to change the way they are working; bringing process improvements but perhaps some new and unfamiliar ways of working.    What I particularly like about the approach Chris and his team are taking is that they have a clear focus. He explained that his job is to make the jobs of the users he serves easier. And in doing so make the lives of citizens better.    In his words, “user first, citizen first.”   I have a hunch this very clear and very noble purpose will be a key success factor that helps the Synergy team implement Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications.   That’s an important lesson for the financial services industry. In fact for us all. Thank you so much for this Chris.

A powerful and most current customer reference, as a reminder underscoring the urgent need for the financial services industry to also reassess its application portfolios, placing a premium on user experience and operational efficiency. The Synergy project stands as a compelling example of how contemporary, interconnected applications can revolutionise industries and enhance the lives of both employees and customers. Many thanks!

It is definitely a great initiative and no doubt it is going to be challenging. Bringing people and processes of 4 large public sector isn't going to be as simple and nothing great is ever achieved with difficulties. Someone dreamed about it, put the plan together and now here it starts. 👏

Amazing idea to link two (apparently) different businesses to solve a common challenge. Great insight to look up into
