Excited to hit the road with Elijah Cohen-Mizrahi ! We're installing American Red Cross 'Hot Shot' alarms in San Diego and Imperial County, promoting safety and preparedness! American Red Cross Fire Alarm Installation Program The American Red Cross offers a free fire alarm installation program, open to everyone, with a focus on supporting vulnerable communities. Trained volunteers install smoke alarms and educate residents on fire safety. Program Goals 1. Reduce home fires and related injuries/deaths 2. Promote fire safety awareness 3. Provide resources for emergency preparedness Installation Details 1. Free smoke alarm installations 2. 10-year battery life alarms 3. Installation by certified volunteers 4. Education on fire safety and escape planning Target Demographics While eligibility is open to all, priority is given to: 1. Low-income households 2. Seniors (65+) 3. Families with young children 4. People with disabilities Benefits 1. Reduced risk of home fires 2. Increased safety for residents 3. Peace of mind 4. Compliance with local regulations Get Involved 1. Volunteer for installations 2. The reality is too many shelters still don't operate with humane, effective programs like Trap-Neuter-Return (#TNR). Without TNR, community cats risk extended stays in shelters rather than being returned to their outdoor homes--and are often killed because they are not adoptable. Where there's heat, there's heightened risk for fire. 🔥🧯 In response to the Davis Fire, we evaluated the data and found a correlation between the number of extreme heat days and poor air quality in Washoe County (which is often indicative of wildfires). Fire season is challenging for communities and can significantly impact quality of life, especially when it hits so close to home.
