Russia’s War Against Ukraine – The Cost of Inaction
Today at the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting, the Foreign Secretary will urge NATO Allies to keep up support for Ukraine. New data shows that investment is critical for global peace, security, and economic stability.
This new research, brought together for the first time by the UK Government, shows the wide-ranging cost of inaction; from further aggression by Putin beyond Ukraine, to widening Russian control over rare mineral supply chains and global food security. Putin's speeches show Russian aggression will not stop at Ukraine, and will continue to threaten global peace. A Russian victory against Ukraine would see important raw materials fall under Putin’s influence: for example lithium, used in electric cars, and uranium which fuels nuclear power. Ukraine losing the war would also put 20% of global wheat exports under the control of Putin, who has made clear he cares little about global food costs.
Ukraine is a strong security partner for NATO
Support from NATO Allies and partners doesn’t just help Ukraine’s defence industry, it supports global security and defence industries at home that ensure our safety. NATO partners are helping Ukraine to build up its own defence industry and produce new technology, like the sea drone which has successfully pushed back Russia’s fleet. Investment in Ukraine's defence makes our collective security stronger, and creates roles in the defence industries across Europe and the US that protect us all.

NATO Allies can collectively support Ukraine long-term
The new data and analysis demonstrates that increased defence spending on Ukraine is sustainable for Allies in the long-term, while Russia is paying for Putin’s invasion with an unbalanced war economy. Continuing to support Ukraine will prevent the costly consequences of a Russian victory. Strong action by Ukraine’s allies now could minimise future deterrence costs reaching Cold War levels.
This continued support from NATO Allies and partners is also key for keeping Ukraine’s economy growing despite the war. A Ukraine free from Putin’s war will remain a strong partner with a resilient and growing tech sector: indeed, 20% of Fortune 500 companies are already using Ukrainian software today.
Ukraine’s fight is also our fight . Together with the enduring support of NATO Allies and partners, Ukraine can win.

1wFunny 😂 how data is manipulated to start wars by an organisation, which was originally allegely created to stop wars and support global peace agenda. Data and statistics are creatively manipulated for EU’s wars against Russia to fulfil one person’s ambition of NATO membership. The right action by NATO is to STOP EU’s WARS. In reality on the ground so far, after $ billions support, the real cost of ongoing action is/has been/will be more destruction, more innocent lives lost, more families displaced, more homeless veterans & families impacted, more mental illnesses, more terrorism attacks in EU nations, primarily to fulfil one person’s ambition to join NATO, and EU’s empire building missions. EU’s wars have been constantly growing instability, steadily worsening terrorism by stealth, UN enforced quotas and illegal migration in European and neighbouring nations as well as on a global scale. Long term support of every NATO member country’s Own people is more critical during the current economic crisis post pandemic instead of human created destruction to continue EU’s wars to fulfil one person’s agenda of NATO membership. #stopeuwars #natomuststopwarsnotstartnewones 🗺️☮️🙏
