About us

The Massachusetts Technical Assistance Center for Problem Gambling Treatment (M-TAC) provides free capacity building and technical assistance services for treatment and recovery programs and providers across the Commonwealth. Guided by public health principles, built on data and evidence, and focused on equity, M-TAC understands the intersection of problem gambling and co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. M-TAC administers the MA Problem Gambling Specialist Certificate, the official problem gambling treatment certificate of the MA Department of Public Health. We offer clinicians and allied health professionals free trainings, free on-demand courses, access to a community with discussion about gambling disorder, and other resources. We're looking for a dynamic, engaging, and outgoing individual to lead the Project Build Up (PBU) program – an initiative that provides grants to build workforce capacity among problem gambling outpatient treatment providers and others in the treatment field. The Associate Director will also oversee quality improvement (QI) activities for PBU and the Massachusetts Technical Assistance Center for Problem Gambling Treatment (M-TAC), a companion program that provides training and technical assistance for treatment and recovery programs across the Commonwealth. The MA Problem Gambling Specialist Certificate, offered through the Massachusetts Technical Assistance Center for Problem Gambling Treatment, is the official gambling treatment certificate of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and allows you to be referred as a problem gambling treatment provider by the MA Problem Gambling Helpline.   • Sign up for our free virtual “flipped classroom model” training, Gambling Disorder Treatment in Practice, happening October 25 from 10am – 12:30pm. In the first part of the session, you’ll do some independent work to prepare for the live training that makes up the second part of the session. You’ll learn to identify therapeutic interventions that can be used when working with a client with gambling-related problems, use role-play and discussion activities to increase your knowledge of how to implement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing into real life practice, and learn to define the term “cognitive distortion” and identify specific examples of distortions related to gambling. We recommend that you complete Introduction to Gambling Disorder Treatment Best Practices training (10/18/2024) before joining this training. This training counts toward the MA PGS Certificate Core Competency Coursework. 2.5 CE(s). See the event details for more information.
