If you find your thoughts, feelings and emotions are limiting your enjoyment to engage fully in life because of past experiences, life's demands, uncertain Covid-19 times; you may need to talk to a trained professional to enable you to get experienced psychological support I work from the viewpoint of seeing each client as unique and autonomous providing a safe, confidential, non judgemental, respectful, supportive space to explore areas of concern at your own pace. This process enables you to explore different perspectives, develop coping skill in order for you to realise your full potential and improve your quality of life.

I work with people who have a variety of difficulties and varying degrees of distress, such as depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, addiction, and bereavement. I strive to offer a safe, supportive and understanding space for all my clients. I very much believe (and have seen in practice) that therapy is a helpful means for resolving current and/or past issues which may affect people and constrain their ability to lead a fully functional and satisfying life. I have a special interest in (i) psychotherapy for older adults, (ii) addiction and (iii) couples therapy.

It is a privilege as a counsellor/psychotherapist to provide a safe environment for clients to work through a wide range of issues that effect their emotional, psychological, & social wellbeing. I'm passionate about this work as I have seen the huge, positive impact this can have on a person's life. I have a particular interest in working with men who often hide their emotions & can be hesitant to reach out for help. Working with families who are caring for loved ones with dementia is also a special interest, this can be a very isolating and lonely experience. A listening ear can be a comfort to clients embarking on this journey.

With the wide skill set of an Integrative Therapist, I find that organically, talking therapy and body based therapies harmonise in the therapy room where clients get to talk, to name emotions, to feel them emotionally and to break down their physicality, demystifying responses, such as anxiety, and aiding the regaining of personal autonomy and full participation in life. Some clients are top down, and others are bottom up, and recognising this in how I work with each individual client is essential.

I am an Irish psychotherapist working with clients on either a short term or long-term basis depending on their needs. My approach to treatment is very much guided by the client. I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all form of therapy. I am here to assist whether you are feeling the need for a journey of transformation, for balance in the middle of chaos, or for a connection between your body, mind, and soul. I believe that healing is always possible. Let's work together to rewrite your story, overcome obstacles, and bring about long-lasting, beneficial change. Take the first step toward positive change and get in touch.

While I work with adults of all age, I specialise in working with young adults/emerging adults through their transitional journey into adulthood. Giving space where they can freely explore their inner world. Their issues may revolve around a sense of existential questioning, identity exploration, or navigating life ups and downs. I provide an empathetic presence, foster self-discovery, and delve into the underlying emotional roots of their struggles. Together, we unravel the layers of their being, ignite their inner wisdom, and facilitate a transformative process that leads to authenticity, growth, and a life lived with intention.

Most clients that come for therapy are wanting to be heard and understood, sometimes for the first time in their lives. They usually have issues that stem back to their childhood and they are somehow stuck in this way of being. Trauma can freeze a person so much that they are not able to move forward and day to day life can be very challenging for them. Most clients want to change and be the best version of themselves. They especially want this if they are in relationships or have children. Also if they are not in a relationship, they want to be in one that is nourishing, healthy and that they feel loved and cared for.

Taking the first step in deciding to attend therapy is often the hardest part, it can be difficult to admit to ourselves that we may need the intervention of another to assist us on this journey. Coming to speak allows an individual to be heard in way that is specific to them, a singular , and not to fit the specifics of ticking the boxes. Speaking about your way of experiencing life and it's difficulties and challenges, can free up a person and allow them to look through a different lens.

Geriatric and Seniors Counsellors

Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?

Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, dementia, and physical mobility challenges.

How can geriatric therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?

Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

How is counselling for elderly different from counseling for other age groups?

Many aspects of geriatric counselling are similar to counselling in younger age groups; in general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. However, therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

Can geriatric counselling help people who suffer from dementia?

Counselling can be highly effective for aging adults with dementia. While some therapists specialising in dementia may work with clients solely on topics surrounding memory loss, they can also assist clients with conditions that may co-occur at old age, such as anxiety or depression. Counsellors specialising in working with older adults can also offer an objective assessment of a client’s functioning or disease progression to caregivers, and they may be particularly knowledgeable about community resources that may benefit dementia clients and their families. Therapists specialising in dementia may also be trained in specialised forms of therapy for memory loss, such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST)—which can help mentally stimulate dementia clients to preserve cognitive functioning.
