Pincushions

My Sister Made Me Do It is having a Pinnie parade!  It started two weeks ago, but I have been super sick and this is the first time I have been able to get my blog post written.
I am going to share one of my cutest pincushions.  I love this little one I made from a kitty cat planter.

This next pincushion is the first one I made.  I think that it is one of my ugliest pin cushions, and I was so proud of it when I made it.  LOL  I made it our of a tuna can and scraps.
Be sure to check out the linky party!

I am having a fundraiser through Pampered Chef to raise money for the hurricane victims.  30% off the proceeds will be donated to Feeding America who provides food and water for the victims.  The fundraiser is going through September 18, Monday.  If you would like to help out, you can place your order at this link:   https://pamperedchef.com/go/PrayforTX2017

Pincushion Parade

My Sister Made Me Do It is having a Pincushion Parade.  Who doesn't love pin cushions?  I had to share my pincushions on my "new to me" vintage table cloth I bought for $1!
Sorry about the picture quality, my camera is not working and I had to take my pictures on my phone.

This is my favorite pincushion, it is a mouse sitting on a pin cushion.
He just makes me smile, he is so cute!

I got this pin cushion at an auction.  It is so small it is perfect to carry in my sewing bag when I travel.  What girl does not need a high heel shoe?
These next two pin cushions are my Texas pin cushions.  I won them both at raffles.  The jar is useful for carrying small items in.

When I saw this kitten at an auction I knew I needed it to make a pin cushion.  She makes me smile.
Two more pin cushions from raffles.  The tea cup holds my hand sewing needles and the vase holds my safety pins.
The pink one was the first pin cushion I ever made.  I made it using a tuna can as the base.  The blue one was made from scraps.
I have to finish this post with my three vintage pin cushions.  I just love the old rocking chairs made out of tin cans.  They have velvet seats that are used as the pin cushions.
I hope you enjoyed seeing all of my pin cushions.  A girl can never have too many can she?

Be sure to pop on over and see everyone else's posts!

A little sewing here and there

This cute cat planter was in a "mystery box" I bought at an auction.  I have been super busy with school work so I have not had hardly any time for sewing.  When I saw this cat I knew I wanted to make it into a pin cushion.  It has been three weeks and so far it has not happened.
I had a leftover piece of fabric and batting from my cat quilt, so I literally just shoved it in there for now!  LOL  I'll sew it up one day!
Monday I was able to get two blocks sewn on my scrappy trip around the world quilt.  I got another two sewn up one evening this week.  That makes four more done.  I think I only have 15 left to sew!
I went to sit down to write my blog post and this is what I found.  They are so cute!

I hope you are having a great day!

Mouse Pincushion

I made my first little pin cushion that looked like something.  I signed up for a pincushion swap on the email list from http://treadleon.net/ .  I wanted something simple since it had to be done on a people powered machine, whether treadle, hand crank or by hand.
I made mine on a Singer redeye/redhead 66 hand crank.  I was surprised how much easier going around the curves was on my hand crank versus my electric, it was a lot easier to control!
Unfortunately the pattern did not have any instructions, just the pattern to trace, which I did not realize until after I cut out everything!  Like I said, this was my first time to make anything like this!  I've only done clothes and quilts and they always had great instructions!
I was so happy I remembered to sew the tail (which I did a simple crochet out of yarn, the only crochet I can do!) on the wrong side of the fabric, I sewed it several times.    Only to realize after I sewed the mouse that I had the tail facing the wrong way!  I actually remembered the correct way on the ears though.
So I took out the gazillion stitches I had put in it to make sure it did not come out and turned it around to where it was on the inside!
I forgot to take a picture, but after I stuffed it I realized there was not a point on the nose and it looked like a deformed mole, so I had to go back and sharpen up the nose.
I stuffed it with my leftover strings you would normally throw away, it makes the pin cushion stiffer then using plain old polyfil would.
Then I added buttons for the eyes and threaded on the whiskers.  The pattern called for seed beads but 1. I didn't have any and 2. I though the buttons matched the buttons on the fabric.  I hope whoever gets it likes it!
And no, I did not plain to have that button right there on the nose in between the whiskers, it was just a happy coincidence!  I have only made a couple of other pin cushions before, but they were easy, this scrappy one and then the wrist one.  I did make another one for a secret sister gift for a friend at church, but I don't have a picture of it.

Have you ever made a pin cushion before?
