Saskatchewan has made great strides in reducing emissions, but we can push even further. By encouraging oil and gas producers to conserve gas through Bitcoin mining instead of flaring or combusting it, the oil and gas sector can achieve even greater emission reductions. This approach benefits the environment but also boosts our energy sector's efficiency. It's time to lead in both energy innovation and environmental responsibility, creating a win-win for our province and to lead my example. https://lnkd.in/g--n6SgW

As a competitive retailer in Alberta’s deregulated electricity market, we frequently hear concerns about the “failure of deregulation.” Recently, the Alberta Federation of Labour proposed re-regulating the market. We see things differently. Deregulation is the true "Alberta Advantage", and here’s why. The UTILITYnet group of companies has provided fixed prices below the RRO for over 80 consecutive months. Together, our brands have donated over $500,000 to local charities and invested significantly in economic development across the province. Since 2019, our Solar Club™ program has also given back over $20 million in value to micro-generators. These are just a few examples of the lasting benefits Alberta’s market brings to our communities. Read our newest blog for more: https://ow.ly/YkvO50TYtOn

The Trudeau Liberals are correct that the demand for power to supply AI Data centers is about to explode. And yes, Canada should be leading the pack to provide this power. Ultimately, AI power demand will come from yet to be built small nuclear reactors. But this will take 5 or ten years, In the meantime, the big users of AI ( Amazon, Walmart, EBay, ChatGP, Siri, Alexis, etc, etc ) , will use natural gas driven electricity. Amazon is building is super computer center in Ohio so that it can be right beside the Utica shale gas and its cheap power. So, given Canadas' abundance of cheap and environmentally friendly Natural Gas, it would be logical for Canada to provide this NG driven power. Butt !! You can count on this current 15 billion giveaway to Quebecs' Equinox of our pension funds by Trudeau wont have anything to do with Western Canadas' cheap, abundant, reliable, and environmentally sustainable Natural Gas. Trudeau will waste these funds on some kind of ( not) Green hydrogen, more hydro dams, or off shore wind farms.

I LIVE IN THE IMAGINARY ENERGY COMMUNITY OF “M&M-VILLE”… That stands for “Molecules & Megawatts” -ville – and it’s located just south of Calgary in Foothills County, right up against the area where Alberta’s first energy boom occurred just as the First World War started in 1914. Right now, the "Ville" is a product of both my imagination, but also my aspiration, for a better and more integrated energy future. From my front step, I look out toward the Turner Valley area, where petroleum production still occurs more than a century later. Out my back door, almost in a straight-line down Highway 543 and within 20 kilometres, are three proposed energy projects, each of which define an "energy system of systems" future – which for the county, could spell the benefits of a next-generation energy boom. That's a boom in which systems of different types all contribute in unique complementarity to future energy stability and security of supply. It has the potential to be a very cool "energy petri dish" of experimentation on economics and environmental impact – as well as peaceful and synchronous co-existence between hydrocarbon molecules and grid megawatts. The initiatives include: - a proposed solar project on 430 acres by Enerfín – a Spanish renewables company. - a proposed renewable natural gas bio-digestion project by Rimrock Feeders and Tidewater Renewables Ltd. using cattle and food waste. - a proposed #battery #storage project by Calgary-based Enfinite. But like all quixotic concepts, it will have pitfalls and obstacles as yet unseen as the projects wind their way through the regulatory, policy and politics of energy development...as well as potential opposition from local landowners. This week I'll present the integrated-energy systems concept to the big brains of the Vancouver Island Engineering Society and seek input from the #engineering minds whose interdisciplinary knowledge and experiential capital will be invaluable in anticipating and pre-emptively contemplating how best to navigate future complexities. Engineers of all disciplines belong to VIES, whose primary mandate is to facilitate growth and mentorship within the profession. I'm keen to hear their input. #engineer #engineering #energytransition Jason Doering, P.Eng Jason Bradley Laura Kilcrease Ken Putt, FCAE, FCSSE, FEC, FEIC, FGC Jim Little Conor Chell James Inglis P.Eng Matt Quist Mike Procee, MBA, P.Eng. This is more of what I have been talking about. We need an energy sector not driven by government. We have 40 or 50 years of questionable decisions in the province; it's time for government to sell assets, then to step back and regulate the industry. Maybe we could pay off some of 400 Billion in Debt we owe from excessive spending by all stripes of government. Most of the population does not understand the fact that the standard of living for the past 75 years would have been much lower without public debt. Now the public debt threatens our standard of living. opinion/randall-denley-ontario-ponders-another-costly-mcguinty-esque-electricity-spending-spree

IT'S TIME TO TAKE BILL C-59 TALK DIRECTLY TO CANADIANS... The oil and gas industry is generally oblivious to the fact that as a sector, we don't rank very high on the scales of public trust. In fact, we rank very low. That's why Canadian parliamentarians were able to ram through recent changes to the federal Competition Act's greenwashing provisions. They understood, as politicos do, that such changes would be a pretty safe move vis a vis public perception of the petroleum sector. In my latest Substack (available for free at the link below), I argue this is because as a sector we don't understand how "trust capital" as a form of "social capital" must be earned every day. But the Bill C-59 furor also provides a unique opportunity for the sector to engage directly with ordinary Canadians to understand more granularly what they perceive to be greenwashing, but more importantly, to understand and catalogue their expectations of industry's future focus on matters of the environment and #energy #security and stability of supply. Thanks to Matt Quist for reminding me about the Overton Window. Dan Burt

This is not a political post. I don’t see LinkedIn as a forum for opinions on such matters particularly since every other forum seems to be. I do think we can learn much about the proper conduct of business by observing political processes, however, so a few observations. - Having two competitors in a market does not drive much value. Their relationship becomes symbiotic with each primarily offering to not be like the other. It is not a competition between Blue and Red, only Blue and not Blue and the other way round. A viable third or fourth player provides asymmetric competition, and better value for all. - Truth drives trust. I saw a bumper sticker many years back whose message I have relied upon. “If you always tell the truth, you don’t have to remember what you said”. Most hold little trust in political figures as the expectation is they do not always tell the truth. The now ubiquitous and often biased fact-checkers remind us of this. Yet somehow, political figures seem to get away with what those of us in business should not. Without truth there is no trust and beneficial deals cannot be made. It is no wonder governments are often so ineffective. - Democracy does not always develop the type of leaders we need. In the political arena, those who are elected are more often not the best and brightest but simply those who can develop constituencies. With government, we have been conditioned or perhaps exhausted to settle for second or third best, but in business there is simply no reason to do so. Truly great leaders can recognize and raise up even greater ones without developing a majority of constituents. What are your observations of what we can learn – the good, the bad and the ugly – from political processes (without being political)? Image:” The Hard Toast”, when too much vigor is applied in a toast.

The #Alberta #electricity #markets are going through some tumult. The provincial government has introduced interim rules on #supplysecurity and #marketpower, but it seems like they are trying to solve different problems. It is also dialoguing with industry to discuss future market plans, but that can be fraught with expected economic positioning by incumbents. I discuss a #longer #term perspective of #electricgeneration and #marketdesign, and provide some feedback to a few issues, discussing #CleanElectricityRegulations, #OBPS (#TIER) and why we really need to understand #grid #security and #batterystorage. All this is wrapped up in an attempt to introduce the idea of a #GridPut Enjoy and feel free to contact for further economic consulting services. Dave

This article demonstrates the pathetic and desperate lengths the EV supporters will go to because public uptake of battery EVs is not playing out according to their unicorn expectations. This industry should not and cannot continue to be kept on life support through unconscionable government subsidies….if it dies, it dies…so be it. To suggest that Rex Murphy’s public support for the Alberta Oil and Gas industry is the reason for the failure of battery EV adoption…well, let’s just say it is very Trudeau like…blame everyone else. Instead, what we are seeing now in the EV auto industry is the direct result of the Federal Government trying to ram battery EVs down people’s throats when there was no economic case for them and maybe more importantly…they are not yet practical for any use except for short runs around town. Mr. Hislop…shame on you for disrespecting a Canadian icon in this way…shame on you.

Ok question for #Alberta #AESO watchers; what would be the primary cause for the power price to surpass $600/MWH on a Saturday evening at 9pm? Simply high demand? Or something else? All I know is it would have been a good time to own and operate a solar-charged grid-scale #battery.

Hate speech. is speech they hate. it is a control program. My theory is that such laws violate the province's constitutional authority, in this case over the ability to control their resources. This is not a Charter argument with section 1 out. It is that the inability to have speech in the area of resources violates the authority dolled out to the Provinces in the Constitution. In terms of bill 63 the same argument applies since hate as it will be interpreted (see Trudeau signalling) as restricting second opinions or challenging dogma on trans and minors. the frightening aspect is the ignorance to date of politicians on the transhumanism aspect that will be silenced in the speech programs rolling out in human rights interpretations, workplace harassment policies, school and parent antibullying policies. we are losing our right and ability to dissent to the control of humans UNDER THE SKIN, through melding man and the machine and through RFID that works with the smart city infrastructure. Anti speech zones errected will paralyze us from the necessary push back to say no to RFID tagging and #CBDC the trans rights are HUMAN rights. why would we need to say it for a poor transgender child. she is human of course her rights are human rights. we are looped into this mantra because it is for the cyborg the next state attenuated life forms who's thoughts are regulated like narrative is now but on roids. THINK FREED. last the reason 'die VERSE' is important is that the word of God must die in such a frame work. God permits us to transcend the control matrix. the word of God they must have found was a solution to MK ultra. hard post. but wake up. the known online, the known in the smart city infrastructure in one plan.

This website is an investment scam!!! If you see it know that it is fake with an investment opportunity that is too good to be true. They are using Suncor Energy and Petro Canada logos and website information, even the Suncor CEO's pictures as part of their scam. They are even using the name Forbes Investing as part of the scam, Forbes being a reputable investment news media outlet. But to add insult to injury they are using NHL Super Star Mark Messier in their scam! Totally unacceptable! Back in 2021, Ian Hanomansing interviewed Mr. Messier about his life and career. These scammers have taken that interview and turned it into a story about Messier's success in investing in oil companies! I have notified Suncor and Petro Canada about the scam but doubt there will be much they can do to shut these people down. Here is the investment scam website URL: https://energipersona.com/ Here is the "Too Good To Be True" investment offer: "As for the profits, they are high in this project, about 300% per month, so if you make a minimum investment of $250, we guarantee that you will receive up to $5,000 per month, which will significantly improve the living standards of Canadian citizens. However, we can only allocate 1000 investor spots for this project. Therefore, if you see this interview and there are still seats available, I recommend that you register immediately and make at least a minimum investment of $250, as once the seats are exhausted, it will be impossible to invest in this project." It has all the hall marks of a scam right down to the "only allocate 1000 investor spots". Scammers always want you to be in a hurry so that you don't think or act rationally. 🇬🇧 Pssst 10 Downing Street - take a look at this!... It's an intro and an update, a status report if you like, on the Government of Alberta's ERA programme - 15 years on. This is a brief clip with the FULL story up on YouTube (link in the comments section below) 🇨🇦 Canada's Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) seems to share much of the ambition of 🇺🇸 The White House's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)...but on the face of it, has avoided becoming a policial football over time. 'Over the past 15 years, ERA has been a key player in helping to reduce emissions, attract investment, and create jobs in Alberta. Beginning with the 2008 initiative by the Government of Alberta to price carbon for industrial emitters, ERA has been at the forefront of investing carbon revenues into cutting-edge clean technology solutions through the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) regulation' For sure I've been aware of the ERA in and around Energy Disruptors these past few years as much of what we've seen and heard onstage in Calgary at the event is a mirror to the ERA ethos. 'A Renewable Energy Superpower'... That's what Canada hopes to be, and putting the building blocks for it in place in order to to turn ambition into reality - takes time, ambition, and money! Coincidentally, only a few days ago, the North Atlantic Transmission One - Link proposition from my friends Laurent Segalen & Gerard Reid went live...that's ALL about ENERGY - and ambition, time, and money! And I'd suggest all of this goes to show that are plenty of people keen on helping the world become a cleaner, greener, better place through their vision, mission, and purpose in life. ...you may say I'm a dreamer - but I'm not the only one! 🎶 #energy #renewables #climateaction #innovation
