Overview
[edit]This election is to appoint the project coordinator team for one year, from 30 September 2015 to 29 September 2016. Coordinators are generally responsible for maintaining all of the procedural and administrative aspects of the project. All of the coordinators, and especially the lead coordinator (or lead coordinators), serve as the designated points-of-contact for procedural issues and focus on specific areas requiring special attention. They are not, however, endowed with any special executive powers.
Responsibilities
[edit]From Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Coordinators:
The primary responsibility of the project coordinators is the maintenance and housekeeping work involved in keeping the project and its internal processes running smoothly; this includes a variety of tasks, such as keeping the announcement and open task lists updated, overseeing the assessment and review processes, managing the proposal and creation of task forces, and so forth. There is fairly little involved that couldn't theoretically be done by any other editor, of course—in only a few places have the coordinators been explicitly written into a process—but, since experience suggests that people tend to assume that someone else is doing whatever needs to be done, it has proven beneficial to formally delegate responsibility for this administrative work to a specified group.
The coordinators also have several additional roles. They serve as the project's designated points of contact, and are explicitly listed as people to whom questions can be directed in a variety of places around the project. In addition, they have (highly informal) roles in leading the drafting of project guidelines, overseeing the implementation of project decisions on issues like category schemes and template use, and helping to resolve disputes and keep discussions from becoming heated and unproductive.
Practical information on coordinating may be found here and here.
The current coordinators are:

Election process
[edit]- Nomination period: 8 September to 23:59 (UTC) 18 September.
- Voting period: 00:01 (UTC) 19 September to 23:59 (UTC) 29 September.
- Any member of the project may nominate themselves for a position by adding their statement in the "Candidates" section below by the start of the election. The following boilerplate can be used:
=== Name === {{user|Name}} : Statement goes here... ==== Comments and questions for Name ==== *''What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?'' ** *''What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?'' ** ==== Votes in support of Name ==== #
- The election will be conducted using simple approval voting. Any member of the project may support as many of the candidates as they wish. The candidate with the highest number of endorsements will become the lead coordinator (provided he or she is willing to assume the post); this position may be shared in the event that multiple candidates receive the highest number of endorsements. The remaining candidates with twenty or more endorsements will be appointed as coordinators to a maximum of eleven appointments (including the lead coordinator). The number of coordinators may be increased or reduced if there is a tie or near-tie for the last position.
- Both project members and interested outside parties are encouraged to ask questions of the nominees or make general comments.

- Given that it looks like we may end up with a fairly limited number of candidates this year I figured I'd volunteer again, having previously filled a position as a coordinator in 2012–13 and 2013–14. I've been around the project for coming up to 7 years now (minus a few months), having both a personal and a professional interest in military history. I didn't run in 2014–15 due to family and work commitments and these are largely unchanged so if there are those among you who believe they can bring more energy to the position / devote more time to it (and I'm sure there are many of you that could) then please step forward and I'll gladly vote for you myself.
Comments and questions for Anotherclown
[edit]- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I've helped write a few articles, not all of which are rubbish (30 GA/As, more than a few others at B and below, no FAs though). My user page has a list of the ones I am prepared to share some of the blame for... I sometimes attempt to provide advice to other editors (unsure how helpful it is though) and assist in developing consensus on occasion as well.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- During my involvement with the project I have worked in a number of areas, including: content creation, reviewing (mainly GA and As, but the odd FA and Peer Review), and proofreading / copyediting, as well as in more administrative areas such as AfD, tagging and assessment, completing B class checklists, and welcoming new members. Mostly though being a coordinator involves being willing to occasionally do a bit of "donkey work", something which I think I'm more than qualified for (some might say the only thing)...

- Without you and Rupert, our A-class review would have crashed a long time ago ... and even though there are other wikiprojects that can manage FAC without A-class, I suspect that it's a crucial part of Milhist's success. So not only does the whole project owe you a debt of thanks for the visibility and reputation that come with FAC, I owe you even more, because of the benefits the FAC process has brought me. So, thanks. - Dank (push to talk) 15:20, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

Auntieruth55
[edit]Auntieruth55 (talk · contribs)
- This is my first year as a coordinator. If you are wondering about the name, I am an Auntie (a great Auntie in fact), and my name is Ruth, but I am not 55. Won't see that again. ;). I also have low ego needs, so will not be upset, offended or otherwise have my nose out of joint if someone wants to take my place.
Comments and questions for Auntieruth55
[edit]- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- For the most part, I've been gnoming away at backlog of untasked, unassessed, and incompletely assessed articles. Occasionally I find an article that I can help out with some serious editing, especially if the editor asks me for help. I've also been called upon to intervene in a few squabbles. Not sure how successful I've been at that, but I've tried to add a sense of balance. I've contributed here and there to some A-list and featured articles, and tried to help out where needed. Most of my own editing contributions have been in the Napoleonic Wars area, German history, the French Revolution and French Revolutionary wars, and some in American history. Some of the articles of which I am most proud include Cologne War, War of Bavarian Succession, and several biography articles, for example: Karl Aloys zu Fürstenberg and Johann von Klenau
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I'm a good editor, good writing skills, and my wiki-skills are adequate. My German is pretty good, so I've translated some articles. My French, not so good, but it's passable, so I've done a few other translations there. Most importantly, however, I'm reasonably even-tempered and have been useful when thrown into the sniping and edit-warring mix.

[edit]AustralianRupert (talk · contribs)
- I have served several terms as a project co-ord between 2010 and 2014. I spent the past year having a break and focusing on content creation. Given that a few of our current co-ords are stepping down, I would like to offer my services.
Comments and questions for AustralianRupert
[edit]- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I have spent the past six odd years working on articles mainly focusing on Australia's involvement in the First and Second World Wars. I have also spent quite a bit of time doing copy editing and reviewing at peer review, GAN, ACR and, occasionally, FAC.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I enjoy doing work like reviewing, closing reviews, verifying contest results, and taking part in discussions on the main page. I also have had some experience working on The Bugle.

[edit]I've done a lot of dumb things in my eight-ish years on Wikipedia, but the smartest thing I ever did was joining Milhist. Reading over this page is reminding me how skillful you guys are at deflecting conflict and drama, and how astoundingly competent you are, particularly by Wikipedia standards. Anyhoo, I've been a Milhist coord for, well, I've lost count. I cover less territory than other reviewers do at Peer Review, A-class and FAC, specializing mainly in copyediting, but I compensate by doing more reviews. If for some reason you want to know more about my tour of duty on Wikipedia, wander around my userspace.

Hawkeye7
[edit]- I go by the name of Hawkeye7. The names comes not from Hawkeye Pierce, the character in M*A*S*H, as is often assumed, but from a comic book character I was fond of as a boy. This character is nothing like the stupid Avengers movie version either! Over the years the comic book character has become more like me. For a description of the character, and of me, see here. It's a pretty accurate depiction.
- I was first elected four years ago. I won't be offended if you ask me to make way for new blood. At last count I had contributed to 43 featured articles, 79 A-class articles and 209 good articles, most of them on Military History. At the moment I am still finishing off a series of articles on the Manhattan Project. I have a masters degree and a doctorate in Military History, and have contributed to a number of books. I was awarded a Golden Wiki by the Military History WikiProject for Military historian of the year in 2012, which was pretty awesome.
Comments and questions for Hawkeye7
[edit]- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- At this point I have to say the Manhattan Project set of articles. An enormous amount of reading and writing has gone into them. I'm finally down to the last dozen or so, although for each one I fix up, I normally create a couple of new articles. By sometime next year I hope to have a good topic.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I'm not an admin, so I cannot perform any admin tasks. Which is a constant frustration. I am first and foremost a content creator. I am pretty knowledgeable about 20th century Military History, my theses being on the two world wars, and will help when I can. I frequently review articles at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Requests and at DYK. I wrote a Bot (MilHistBot) to perform routine coordinator tasks. I have a working knowledge of French and German, so I can read books in those languages and translate articles into English. Not nearly good enough though to go the other way.

Nikkimaria
[edit]Nikkimaria (talk · contribs)
- I've been a coord for a couple of terms before and want to do what I can to continue to contribute to the project. As some of my colleagues have said, though, I won't be offended to yield to other candidates.
Comments and questions for Nikkimaria
[edit]- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I've written some pretty unusual MilHist articles (If Day remains my all-time favourite), but I'm probably most proud of my work reviewing articles at FAC and elsewhere (ACR, PR, etc)
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I tend to be very detail-oriented, which is a big positive in reviewing! I also contribute to some of the tedious-but-not-botified tasks like counting reviews for the reviewer awards.

[edit]- Support Nikki has been a pillar of Milhist, especially with her comprehensive image licensing reviews. Always happy to lend a hand to those of us who struggle with copyright laws at times. Peacemaker67 (crack... thump) 00:27, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- Support: Nikki's involvement as a writer and reviewer has greatly benefitted the project. Thanks for running again, Nikki. AustralianRupert (talk) 12:22, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- When I think about what you do for the project, I'm not sure how to thank you, because there are so many essential things you know in detail that I'm not in a position to critique your work. I'm glad you devote so much time to this project, and I feel more comfortable whenever you show up in any discussion i'm taking part in, anywhere. - Dank (push to talk) 15:20, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

Peacemaker67
[edit]Peacemaker67 (talk · contribs)
- I've been a coord for two years now. In that time, I've done a fair amount of the gnoming work of the coordinator team, passing A-class reviews, handing out awards, checking and tallying monthly contest results. I also do a fair amount of reviewing, having over 100 Milhist GA reviews to my credit and dozens of A-class reviews. I've done a fair swag of content creation too, in the disputed space that is Yugoslavia in WWII. I was going to have a break this year, but it is apparent that we won't have the numbers we need, so I'm nominating. Sorry, it doesn't sound terribly inspiring. Comments and questions for Peacemaker67
[edit]- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- My two years as an active coordinator, and my 13 FAs, 2 FLs, 33 A-Class articles, and 53 GAs. Peacemaker67 (crack... thump) 10:49, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I won't be dedicating as much of my time to coord duties as I have in the past two years, because I want to concentrate on content creation for a bit. But I know what needs to be done, and I get on and do it when I see it needs doing. I hope that has meant that processes have been a bit smoother during my time as a coord. I'm self-employed/semi-retired, so I have a bit more time on my hands than some of the other coords. Peacemaker67 (crack... thump) 10:49, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

Comments and questions for Sturmvogel_66
[edit]- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I'm primarily a content creator, so my 60-odd Featured Articles and lists and 500+ Good Articles since 2007 are an accomplishment. I suppose the largest featured topic in all of Wiki, Wikipedia:Featured topics/Battlecruisers of the world, to which I contributed to over half of the articles is the thing of which I'm most proud.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?

[edit]- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- If I had to single out a few then my work the battleships and more recently writing for the bugle would stand out.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- Well if you have any occasion to see me in action over the years I am usually a brain storming machine, having suggested a number of different things for the project to help improve it. Some of these ideas have been accepted, others rejected. I've also swing to fill in as needed for tasks such as closing the ACRs.
