MathXplore

Hello! I am assuming you have come over from the English Wikipedia, so you are probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few links to help you adjust:

There is much to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that do not exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you would like to do. Thank you for joining us! If you need any help, be sure to visit Simple Talk or contact an administrator. Happy changing! @MathXplore
Hrm... I thought I'd already made edits here? Maybe I didn't save them properly?
I don't think I am at all fluent in simple English, I'm just an escapee from the croweded comflict.
Irtapil (talk) 12:06, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are there guides for other languages? Like an English Wikipedians guide, but for other languages instead of English? Irtapil (talk) 09:23, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We are not a multilingual project, so I don't think we will have guides in other languages. A collection of non-English documentation about simplewiki can be found at d:Q200183. MathXplore (talk) 13:13, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your subpages

[change source]
PotsdamLamb

Hi there. I hope things are well with you. I added nowiki code to some of your subpages as the protection templates are trancluding into a category of pages with the template that are not protected. As I was going through them, I noticed you are transcluding to a lot of categories, and I mean a lot. I think the better option is that you add <nowiki> to the beginning of those pages and at the end of the page add </nowiki>. This will prevent your subpages from trancluding into all of the categories they are currently going into. This is better than adding : at every entry. If you have any questions, please let me know by pinging me. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 08:00, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb I'm not allowed to add any categories, see above. So I'm showing all the options for whoever categorises the page, I put them in a commented out section at the end of the page when they are not drafts.
I am confused by what is wrong with the : at the start? does that work differently in simple compared to the main English wiki? I was told thar was the right way to show categories on drfts there.
Irtapil (talk) 10:39, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not everything on your subpages has a : in front of it. That is the problem. There are some like {{Use dmy|date=Febuary 2023}} which show in the categories. That is why I am saying it is better to just nowiki the pages you call logs where you copied over everything. If you open up say Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:User_prepositions:yes you will see you are calling the template (which doesn't exist) 3 times. The more links to a template, the more I have to investigate to decide if it I need to make it. Same with this one Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:User_WikiProject_Australian_biota especially since we do not use projects here, so it will never be made into a project template. Those are just a couple. Some categories your name comes up in are before your ban and part of article talk pages, but should have been preceded by a :. You can see those here. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 11:02, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
sorry i must have missed some.
can you link the pages you mean?
Irtapil (talk) 13:13, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly you have so many, I would recommend going through all of them. By using the nowiki code you eliminate all calls back to anything you have, including other users pages, talk pages, etc. You will still be able to go to them, but this way it covers all situations and keeps you out of hot water (even if by mistake). Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 13:16, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused about what the problem is. It is links from other wikis that don't exist here, don't they just do nothing?
would it be better or worse to properly link to where they do exist?
en:Template:User_WikiProject_Australian_biota
Irtapil (talk) 13:25, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Template:User_WikiProject_Australian_biota
that isn't a page here.
that's a red link.
it's on another wiki.
Irtapil (talk) 13:19, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I understand that, but what happens is we have wanted categories where anything red linked goes. The higher the number, the more likely we are to make it. So if you have that template 200 times in your sub-pages we would make it, but if we look at it and see they all point back to you, we would ask you to remove them or no wiki them. They are also something you can : to, but I have given you the easiest way to do it on those pages. On your drafts, I am not too worried right now as you are blocking them. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 13:24, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
what do i have 200 times?
Irtapil (talk) 13:26, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was using that as an example. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 13:27, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
it was confusing. Irtapil (talk) 13:29, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb These aren't categories, they're user boxes, they're a novelty from en wiki en:User:Irtapil <- see them there.Irtapil (talk) 13:28, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb I'm having a lot of troubling understanding what you are referring to.
If you could link specific userspace pages as examples that would help?
I copied a lot of work in progress over from en.wiki, but some of the things I was doing there aren't very feasible here anyway, pages causing a lot of problems might indicate it's an idea that won't work here on Simple anyway.
So some of them i can maybe just delete if they're causing a lot of trouble here.
Irtapil (talk) 02:48, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Irtapil It is hard to pinpoint all of them as I would need to go through everything. When you do a copy/paste of everything you did on ENWP to SEWP, it will cause a lot of dead links and requests for any wanted pages, categories, templates, etc. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 02:52, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Server returned error HTTP 503
@PotsdamLamb That's Ok. No need to do it retrospectively, but next time you see a problem, please link the specific pages when your see them. It will make it much easier for me to fix.
  • Is there anything I still need to fix our have you fixed it already?
  • Have you already edited at least a few of the things you saw? Maybe I can check your edit history to find the pages you are talking about?
Irtapil (talk) 03:54, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Worked the second time… odd.
Irtapil (talk) 03:54, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb does this method User:Irtapil/Box Drafts achieve what you're trying to do? That's a bit more readable than nowiki. Irtapil (talk) 02:41, 10 April 2024 (UTC) moved Irtapil (talk) 03:56, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb Did you see this one above? I moved it to unburry it. Irtapil (talk) 03:56, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. There is no wikidata object or an ENWP article for this. Can you move this to your userspace until it’s done please? Then from there I can make the object if enough sources and information are provided. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 04:51, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb
Thank you for linking this time. I'll move it in a minute.
But I'm not sure what the rest means?
  • ENWP?
  • wikidata object?
And by move to use space "until it is done"
  • do you mean until i have made it less drafty?
  • or until you have done something else that needs to be done first?
Irtapil (talk) 06:31, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For the last question, less drafty. Wikidata object is what connects everything across wikipedia (see wikidata.org). ENWP is English Wikipedia. You can save this link to help you with wikipedia terms commonly used. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 06:38, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for moving it. Typically if you are working on something that is not ready for the mainspace, it is best to leave it in your user space. This way no one edits it or nominates it for quick deletion. I have one in mine I am working on (for a little over a month now). Since it is in my user space no one should be touching it other than me or if I explicitly say someone can plus it does not show up in google search results. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 07:17, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thanks for warning me instead of just deleting it. I normally do work in my userspace if I know it will take a while. I thought I could turn that one into a presentable stub within a couple of hours, but I got side tracked. Irtapil (talk) 15:16, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete the talk page header?

[change source]
Auntof6 + PotsdamLamb

@User:Auntof6, in this edit:

Why did you delete the talk page header?

Irtapil (talk) 15:11, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Talk pages do not need to be created unless there is an actual discussion on it. Just creating it the way you did is also not proper. When someone needs to post to it, we have a template called talkpage that would go at the top of the page. Otherwise we leave the pages blank. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 19:34, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb
  • I created the page when I posted this on the talk page, to ask why @Auntof6 deleted a previous version of that talk page from 2021.
  • I then moved my question here where I was more likely to see the reply.
  • I didn't tag the blanked page for deletion because it didn't seem very necessary? I can't delete pages myself and I didn't want to waste someone else's time by flagging it QD. And you say "Otherwise we leave the pages blank"? That's what I did!
The page from 2021 doesn't seem to have been just blank like it was after I moved my question, but I can't see what was there before, because it's deleted. The header of a talk page often contains a lot of useful information, even if there is no discussion under it.
Irtapil (talk) 15:10, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sop if you look at the reason, what does it say at the end of the line of Auntof6s' post? Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 15:13, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb
What is "Sop"?
  • "what does it say at the end of the line of Auntof6s' post?"
Slow down, I was just about to paste that here.
But I cannot see what was in the header, because it was deleted.
  • That is why I asked her.
  • initially on the talk page itself
  • then I moved it to here
  • and that is why it i left a blank page
  • but I wasn't asking about the blank page
  • I was asking about the talk page from 2021
  • because on most wikis the talk page header contains a lot of useful information.
Irtapil (talk) 15:26, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
… actually, that was already at the top of this thread, why did you ask? Irtapil (talk) 15:29, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So was this on the page they deleted?
03:41, 5 August 2021 Auntof6 talk changes deleted page Talk:Al-Aqsa Mosque (talk page created with only the header) (thank) Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 15:37, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry you multiple at different times. So when a page gets deleted it always will show a reason. They deleted the page for talk page created with only the header. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 15:39, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
SOP is a typo due to google interference from here. I have to disable it. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 15:40, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
my question was why @Auntof6 deleted the header.
the header often contains useful info.
Irtapil (talk) 13:14, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Irtapil: Well, that was 3 years ago, but it looks like I deleted it because it was created with only the {{talk header}} template. The template didn't have any parameters, so there was no useful information. -- Auntof6 (talk) 13:48, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Irtapil: When you have a question for me, please consider asking it on my talk page instead of yours. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 13:49, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaning up articles

[change source]
PotsdamLamb + Kk.urban

Hi, do you know how to clean up the broken references in articles like Gaza War (2008–2009)? Kk.urban (talk) 17:13, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kk.urban which references, or broken in what way? It currently looks ok to me? Irtapil (talk) 14:51, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, because PotsdamLamb fixed it. It was broken when I sent this message. Kk.urban (talk) 15:09, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban broken in what way? Irtapil (talk) 15:16, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see this link: Special:PermaLink/9479692. That is what the article looked like after you edited it. Kk.urban (talk) 15:17, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now I remember, I was in the process of fixing it. Maybe I should have saved one ref at a time.
Irtapil (talk) 15:32, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know how to do it? If not, I can explain the process. Kk.urban (talk) 15:33, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban Is there a special way? I was just digging through the wiki English article trying to find the full references and copy paste them over the named undefined references. Irtapil (talk) 15:44, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's it. Just find the references with the same name and copy them over. Kk.urban (talk) 15:44, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is not the easiest task in the world to do either. I do a copy/paste in the browser to find it using some keyword, like the date or an authors last name. I find that the easiest way to do it. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 16:19, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. On Gaza War (2008–2009) I was able to get the template fixed, so it now shows all of the conflicts and stuff. It is below the main infobox. If you create any of the articles, please make sure to name them as they are in the template so they will automatically link. I will go ahead also and fix the ref errors on that article and you can look at the changes I make and see what I did. There are some settings you can adjust so you see the errors as well. There are numerous ref and citeharv errors, but you won't necessarily see all of them. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 22:01, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ok, next time i need to read things newest first… Irtapil (talk) 15:33, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • What do you mean by "get the template fixed"?
  • What do you want me to name?
Thank you for fixing the referencing errors, I was working on that, but I got interrupted before I managed to find all of them.
Irtapil (talk) 15:40, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Hope it helped you out. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 15:41, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  1. What do you mean by "get the template fixed"? - I had to fix it to get it to work.
  2. What do you want me to name? - When you create articles from scratch, give them the same name that shows up in the navigation box. So if the navigation box Lois and Clark, make sure the article is named that and not Lois & Clark or Clark and Lois. This will allow it to link right to it.
Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 16:22, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok. I'll fix the template to match the name if i pick a different name. Irtapil (talk) 13:11, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A reminder

[change source]
PotsdamLamb re Mujahideen

Hi there. I wanted to remind you that you have Mujahideen that still has the In Use tag on it from March 31, 2024. I just wanted to remind you of. Do you want it moved to your user space or for me remove the tag? Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 03:27, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for linking the page. Fixed now. Irtapil (talk) 15:34, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PDL: But it shouldn't be moved to my user space.
I didn't start it.
Someone else created the stub recently.
But it's fixed now anyway.
Irtapil (talk) 15:37, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No and I never said that. I just wanted to remind you about the tag since you put it on. Other editors will not take it off (or should not take it off). Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 16:14, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I meant that bit

Quick deletion of Israel Hayom

[change source]

The page you wrote, Israel Hayom, has been selected for quick deletion. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. You can find more information about the reason here. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 18:37, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please check for any other pages before you create a new one. We already have this article so I requested a QD on yours so I can move it to the correct title. Just do a general search first. Thanks. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 18:40, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

April 2024

[change source]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you recently made a new article or made changes to one, for example "Israel Hayom", by adding things copied from a book, magazine, newspaper or another website without the permission of the copyright holder. Many sources, including websites found on the Internet, are copyrighted. I am afraid Wikipedia cannot accept any things copied from these sources as it can get Wikipedia into serious legal trouble. The article or changes have been or will soon be deleted. Next time, please look up sources to find out information for articles and explain it in your own words, and do not copy sentences or images from them. Thank you. The article you created Israel Hayom is a direct copy of the above-linked page. I expect you not to commit any copyright violations going forward, as this is a very large no-no on any Wikipedia site. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 18:44, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb
you've given me three different notices about the same page!
and they don't really make sense as a sequence.
Can i have the most relevant bits in Simple English plese?
That article a summary of the article in English wiki.
Everything on wiki is creative commons.
If something is copyright violating it is in the original on en.wiki
23:37, 16 April 2024 (UTC) Irtapil (talk) 23:37, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I only posted one. I do not know why you are getting three notifications, unless it is related to Wikipedia:Simple talk#Template loop detected. I cannot provide the diffs, as the article has now been deleted. It is in the section above this. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 23:40, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb, Not three notifications, but three headers. Irtapil (talk) 03:56, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb none of the sections explain equation the codify material was. They're all signed by you. Irtapil (talk) 03:57, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The first one was to notify you of quick deletion of the page you created. I had to have it deleted it to move the other version over. It was called Israel HaYom.
The second one was asking you to search for any articles before you create one to prevent duplication. Had you done that you would have seen Israel HaYom was there and you could have moved it and fixed it so it would have been Israel Hayom.
The third heading is because what was on Israel Hayom (the page you created) was an exact copy of what is on Israel HaYom. That tells me you knew about the page with the misspelled name and instead of moving it, you copied it to the page you created. That is called copyright infringement which is illegal. This is why we move pages instead of just creating a new page with the same comment. I hope this helps. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 04:44, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also saw what you just did. These are automated messages through Twinkle, so separate headings will happen as that is the way it works. Each one was for a different notice (as I just explained above). Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 04:46, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb, No. Ω„Ψ§ Π½Π΅Ρ‚ nein.
That not wha did, or why i did it.
Irtapil (talk) 04:56, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't use twinkle, but I think simple wiki might be a lot better off without it. I've never heard of it doing anything useful? but it seems to generate a vast amount of uninformative text for me to dig through and give inaccurate partial info to users. Irtapil (talk) 04:59, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Twinkle is what we use and have used pretty much since the beginning. It’s simpler here but gets the point across if you click the links provided. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 05:18, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
English only please. What is that comment? Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 05:15, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's just "no" in four languages. And a missing t in the following line. Irtapil (talk) 05:23, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We only use English here. So please stay with English when communicating with others on Simple. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 05:29, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb. If you looked at the edit summaries you'd see both pages were independently derived from English Wikipedia, both by me, and attributed as such in the edit summary. I was using the translation interface because it gives a convenient side by side view, and has a few other useful features. Previously it let a new version of a page overwrite the old one, but that wasn't working so I gave it a slightly different spelling, intending to merge / redirect / quick delete at appropriate when I got back here. But you deleted one of them before I had the chance. The edit summary is automated, which is good for letting track of versions, but it means I couldn't add an extra note to explain. But they both would have linked back to the version of the en wiki article they came from. Irtapil (talk) 05:21, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We work fast, especially when it comes to copyright. It shows it to us in a live feed on IRC. If you are translating or anything and plan on moving then you should have done that first by moving the incorrect title to the correct title then translating. You always want to do the move first so you do not have to type so much. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 05:25, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's not what the problem was. Irtapil (talk) 05:38, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb how is it copyright infringement when all of the content involved is under a creative commons attribution licence? You can't copyright innfringe something that isn't protected by copyright. Irtapil (talk) 04:49, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Copyrights#Moving things from other Wikipedias Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 05:21, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb That section contradicts the intro and seems to be written by someone who hasn't even reaintro first section, "Important note: The Wikimedia Foundation does not own copyright on Wikipedia article texts and illustrations." Irtapil (talk) 05:30, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb, I think there is a logo on the article that is covered by trademark or copyright, but the user in the article (identical to the use in en.wiki is covered by fair use, there'll be details on the image page in wiki commons. Irtapil (talk) 05:35, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because the logo is geometric shaped and words it is allowed to be on commons. It was also uploaded by the creator of the logo. With the attribution to the company. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 05:43, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is correct. Wikipedia does not own it as it is released to the public provided attribution is given. That is stated further down the page. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 05:37, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So what on earth is the problem!? Irtapil (talk) 05:38, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is attributed in the edit summary. There is an extra template I can add to talk pages, but that seems redundant, I think it's more designed for before the translation tool recoded it in the edit summary automatically. Irtapil (talk) 05:41, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have already explained it to you. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 05:43, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your are are either wrong or incomprehensible. Irtapil (talk) 05:46, 17 April 2024 (UTC) sorry Irtapil (talk) 09:34, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb Sorry I snapped at you yesterday.
I did intend to say this first but the other stuff seemed more urgent.
Irtapil (talk) 09:36, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And that help page is wrong because it said it says "Text from other Wikipedias is copyrighted" and that's incorrect for any of the wikis here. Possibly it refers to independently run wikis using the same software. Irtapil (talk) 05:45, 17 April 2024 (UTC) fixed typo Irtapil (talk) 10:17, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox event

[change source]

Hi, for pages such as Shooting of Nahed and Ramez Barbakh, rather than using a table, it would be better to use {{Infobox event}}. For an example, see en:Kenosha unrest shooting. Kk.urban (talk) 19:06, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kk.urban, I moved this down to remind myself to fix that.
{{infobox civilian attack}} is the best match.
It's a translation of an Arabic Wiki article and the code for Arabic Wiki is mostly in Arabic script, so the infoboxes don't tansfer well. The table was an intermediate step to copy the data over. It alto formats a table, but matching up the info box fields needs to be done one at a time.
Irtapil (talk) 04:28, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, that infobox is probably better. Kk.urban (talk) 04:29, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban I fixed it but that seemed to be ironically counter productive. Irtapil (talk) 07:27, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Military ranks (Palestine)

[change source]

Hello, User:Irtapil/Military ranks (Palestine) needs some cleanup before it can be an article, so I've moved it to your userspace for now. Kk.urban (talk) 05:50, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I was trying to re-write what I wrote because it didn't make much sense. What I meant by the English page being too good is that I saw the page was messy, but the page on English wiki is already very simple? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_ranks_of_the_State_of_Palestine I thought of just pasting the English version over the messy page? but we're not supposed to just duplicate stuff? Can we just link pages here to that one? Instead of duplicating it? BottleOfSoup (talk) fixed a bit BottleOfSoup (talk) 09:56, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No. We do not allow links to ENWP as they are in normal, college level English and not simple. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 09:58, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The removed question was "how to move it to user space". In the default non-mobile page view (Vector 2022), there is a sidebar on the right side of every page called "Tools". There is a move link under this sidebar. Kk.urban (talk) 08:44, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my phone is a disaster, it was literally smoking yesterday I probably shouldn't be using it. I bought a new one yesterday but it doesn't get here for a few days. BottleOfSoup (talk) 08:47, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Irtapil @Kk.urban In my defence I think it was the cable that was smoking. I'm not quite crazy enough to use a phone that did that. Cable wore out because this stupid old thing only works when plugged in. BottleOfSoup (talk) 08:52, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban I understand but many people get alerted about changes on the page then come to comment and it’s not here. WP:Talk pages the discussion has to stay as is unless it is determined it is over. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 08:48, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank you. Can I move something to someone else's user page? BottleOfSoup (talk) 08:49, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@BottleOfSoup: Yes, that's what I did, because the article wasn't ready. Just a note: When you're moving, there is a box under "New title" where you can select "Article", "Talk", "User", etc. You should actually select "Article". Then type out the full title of the page you want to move it to, such as "User:Irtapil/Earth". Kk.urban (talk) 08:53, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban maybe I'll just suggest the user do it themself rather than risk screwing it up? But at least now I know what to suggest. BottleOfSoup (talk) 08:58, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban Thank you for not just deleting it. Irtapil (talk) 07:26, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

[change source]

At this time, I need to ask you to stop importing templates. You are importing a lot that are not being used on here and are all redlinks and you are also not changing them to fit SEWP criteria. This was brought up to you before by @Auntof6 about templates and you are importing a lot of them and they are only being used on pages in your user space if at all. This is causing extra work for me to have to go back through and fix them. Also do not add any line breaks or any other code to them. They are set certain ways for a reason because of what they do or how they are set to do things.

Also pinging @Ferien as they were part of your block. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 16:32, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please link the SEWP template criteria? Irtapil (talk) 07:16, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please link an example of where I incorrectly added a line break so I know what you are referring to? Irtapil (talk) 07:17, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No because I asked you to stop and it was already mentioned above in your block. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 07:20, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But I don't think there are any that I haven't linked to multiple pages here (except the example mentioned below). I thought I already fixed that. If you have noticed exceptions I would appreciate help finding them so I can fix them. Irtapil (talk) 07:25, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"you are importing a lot of them and they are only being used on pages in your user space if at all"
Can you please link an example of one that is still under used? I have imported a lot but I thought in most cases I have added them to multiple pages here?
The only exception I recall is one template relating to the history of British Mandate Palestine. Where we don't have any of the pages yet. But I am working on creating them.
If it is possible to move a template to a user space we could do that with the one unused template.
Irtapil (talk) 07:23, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. Templates are not to be used outside of the template namespace because of the various features they use. The fact you just asked that shows I am correct in asking you not to bring in anymore templates as you need to know what you are doing outside of a copy and paste. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 07:26, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering if there was a system for draft templates. This isn't an unreasonable question because that would be a useful thing to have. Irtapil (talk) 07:42, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. We have the templates already and what we don’t have we borrow from ENWP and then customize them to SEWP. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da πŸ‘! 07:46, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb
I created that as a placeholder stub for an article we need that is linked in other articles we have.
I have commented out the Arabic text to translate later. Sorry I missed that.
If I'm doing stubs wrong let me know how to improve it?
Part of the problem I have lately is that a lot of interconnected articles are missing.

Why did I get no notification for Shooting of Nahed and Ramez Barbakh!?

[change source]

I am a lot more upset about that being deleted than anything I did get notified about. Irtapil (talk) 07:16, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It would have been deleted regardless:
Per: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Victim_lists :
1. They fail to have significant coverage. The subjects tend to be addressed in terms of the massacre, and their notability is non-existent – as has been pointed out many times before, dying, even dying violently, does not make you notable, and the victims of various terrorist attacks, school shootings, and other events have been established to be non-notable as individuals. These people get brief coverage in the press in the context of the event, as the news tries to put a human face on it, but then fades away immediately thereafter, forgotten and ultimately unimportant and non-notable.
2. Wikipedia is not a news source. It is explicitly stated that it takes more than a short burst of news reports about a single event or topic to constitute evidence of sufficient notability. The coverage of these events fits this pattern precisely – there is a short burst of news reports, then the list of victims is, by and large, never mentioned again. The reason for this is their lack of notability. For instance, Columbine is still referred to commonly, but newspapers typically won't talk in depth about any of the victims. I blanked one of your user pages

[change source]

Hi, Irtapil. I know you are indeffed here, but I wanted to let you know that I blanked User:Irtapil/en. I did that because it had many red links that made it appear in various wanted pages categories. I hope you don't mind. If you return in the future, you can just undo the blanking I did. -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
