2005 IDW continuity

During the 1960s, twenty-three nuclear fusion weapons were detonated on Bikini Atoll, and the blast tests left deposits of fissile materials such as Strontium-90 and Cesium-137 on the island. In the modern day, General Witwicky's Earth Defense Command set up its primary headquarters on the island to test the development of new anti-Cybertronian weaponry. Full Fathom Five Development of the base was funded in part by Garrison Blackrock's Onyx megacorporation, and thus utilized numerous cutting-edge machines based off Transformer technology. Helden In addition to incorporating an underground hangar for the EDC's fleet of reverse-engineered Seeker clones, I Dream of Wires Blackrock was able to build numerous secret rooms within the facility to advance his own goals, independent of the EDC's charter. In early 2014, a group of Decepticons led by Galvatron and Soundwave arrived on Earth and brokered an alliance with humanity by telling them that Megatron had defected to the Autobots and used the Bikini Atoll base as the primary embassy between their two species. Detonation Boulevard

When Alpha Trion arrived on Earth to search for the Enigma of Combination, the EDC shot down his vessel and brought him and his ship to the Marshall Islands for study. Full Fathom Five

Optimus Prime's Autobots travelled to Earth some six months later in search in search of Alpha Trion, and Jetfire was able to track the signature of the EDC's "mindbomb" to the Marshall Islands. The Mind Bomb The Autobots used Sky Lynx to reach the islands, and sent a stealth painted Jazz to scout out the base. Unbeknownst to Jazz, Galvatron and Soundwave had also travelled to the base to confront the EDC on their mindbomb.

Optimus ordered a full frontal assault on the EDC base to provide a distraction for Jazz, but the assault was later halted by the arrival of the Nemesis. Full Fathom Five A brief battle ensued that ended after Prowl was hacked into the base's defense systems and fired every piece of ordnance on the Decepticon warship. I Dream of Wires

Shortly afterwards, Cosmos was sent to remotely survey the islands to see if the EDC base was still operational, leading to another dogfight. Signals, Calls, and Marches Thundercracker later flew there to try and contact Marissa Faireborn, but was ignored, and a Transformer attack in Wanmu led Blackrock to activate his clone army. ONoffON Thundercracker tried to prevent them from reaching their destination, but was unable to slow them down until Soundwave cracked their signal and sent them all plummeting into the ocean. The Obliterati

After Spike Witwicky's arrest, he was brought to a holding cell in the base and met with Blackrock, who revealed that he could use his miraculous "Onyx Interface" system to hack into Transformer technology. The Nothing Man After doing so, and using his newfound control to take several Autobots captive, he secretly had them transported to one of his secret rooms in the EDC base with the express purpose of melting them down to further his experiments. Aphelion

Unbeknownst to Blackrock, Jetfire's drone buddy D.0.C. had infiltrated the base and befriended Thundercracker's pet dog Buster. After a series of misunderstandings, the unlikely duo befriended one another and managed to release the captive Cybertronians. At that moment, Galvatron teleported in, and, recognizing Blackrock as a Cybertronian agent of Onyx Prime, took him hostage. Though Skywarp teleported the Decepticons and their new prisoner away, the base staff watched in horror as a new Decepticon army stood poised to invade Earth... and Optimus Prime pronounced that Earth was now under the protection of the Council of Worlds. Perihelion

In the ensuing battle, the EDC opted to deploy another mindbomb, preemptively ending the Decepticon threat to Earth. Prime subsequently flew the Skyroller to the Marshall Islands to retrieve the Autobots that had been captured by Blackrock. Once Upon a Time on Earth

When Skywarp—reduced to little more than a ghost due to his increasingly unstable molecules—finally abandoned Galvatron's faction of Decepticons and threw his lot in with humanity, he was brought to the Bikini Atoll base in the hopes that he could be repaired. EDC scientists were able to return him to normal, but at the cost of losing his ability to teleport entirely. His integrated weapons were examined and reverse-engineered, allowing humans to develop functioning laser weapons. G.I. Joe vol. 5 #1

Ultimately, Marissa Faireborn would be ousted from her position as Director of the EDC and replaced by General Joe Colton; after coordinating a strike against the Cybertronians in the Pacific Ocean, White Heat he opted to retire the EDC entirely in favor of a newly resurrected G.I. Joe strike force, moving the primary headquarters to G.I. Joe's old base on Governor's Island. Concorde Hymn

Colton would be replaced by a Dire Wraith imposter, and when the false Colton perished at the hands of Rom Concorde Hymn numerous Dire Wraiths that had infiltrated the EDC dropped their cover and took over the EDC base. A small G.I. Joe force was deployed to the island to retrieve the "valuable asset" and discover why the facility had abruptly gone dark. They were able to safely extricate Skywarp from the hands of the Dire Wraiths, and the island was subsequently abandoned. D.T.A.

Some months later, a failed Junkion invasion of Earth prompted Marissa to suggest repurposing the old EDC base as a new city that the Junkions could peacefully inhabit. Feel Safe Without Regrets Dubbing it "Little Cybertron," the Autobots and Junkions relocated to Bikini Atoll in the hopes of building a new embassy for aliens on Earth. The Next Day, and the Next
