- The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 01:48, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Only 1 page in this category. Let'srun (talk) 19:07, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- I find it hard to support one category in a (weakly) yet established tree. A larger nomination that encompasses more of Category:Lacrosse clubs by year of disestablishment would be more likely to get supported. –Aidan721 (talk) 20:29, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support now that I've added the only child page to category Sports clubs and teams disestablished in 2008 Mason (talk) 22:21, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- This is more of a feeling the waters regarding this tree. If there is support, I would nominate additional categories there which have the same issue. Let'srun (talk) 01:15, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Lacrosse clubs disestablished in the 2000s and Category:Sports clubs and teams disestablished in 2008 assuming that sibling categories will be nominated too. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:48, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Lacrosse clubs disestablished in the 2000s and Category:Sports clubs and teams disestablished in 2008 as per WP:SMALLCAT. This should also be done for other years like this that are clear smallcats. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:41, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Not likely to grow given cricket's lack of popularity in the United States. –Aidan721 (talk) 18:55, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose - It may not be a popular sport now, but it seems likely to grow in the future. California is the place that is being targeted by Major League Cricket and the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics for cricket to grow, and the Bay Area in particular has a large South Asian diaspora which is noted for being big supporters of cricket. So I would at least hold off for a few years before considering such a merge. GreekApple123 (talk) 19:24, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose I feel this is WP:TOOSOON. As stated above, the U.S. has been a center of attention for cricket as of late and is being targeted in anticipation for the T20 World Cup next year, as well as 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Not to mention, the introduction of Major League Cricket has further enticed major resurgence of the sport in the U.S., and California. Right now, we are at the epicenter of the growth of the cricket in the U.S. and should wait and see if it truly takes off, or just flips dead (hoping it’s the former, though! Fingers crossed…). Cheers!! --WellThisIsTheReaper Grim 00:17, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Fair enough, but the opposite is true as well with regards to WP:TOOSOON. You could argue that these categories were created too soon, and should wait for the growth to occur after these major upcoming events. –Aidan721 (talk) 02:22, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I suppose so. Nevertheless, I believe that we should keep the category as is (for now, at least!). Cheers! --WellThisIsTheReaper Grim 05:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

- Merge for now without prejudice to recreation when more articles are available. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:50, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Merge for now not enough articles right now to justify a separate category. If the situation changes in 5 years time as there are a lot more notable cricket teams there, then it would be reasonable to re-create/unmerge the category then. But we shouldn't be keeping this based on the hope and expectation that more teams may exist in the future. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:42, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Merge for now as above - a category on Wikipedia won't encourage these clubs to be established, but once they are, there can be a category for them. Crowsus (talk) 17:43, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Immigrants to Prussia to Category:Immigrants to the Kingdom of Prussia
- Nominator's rationale: rename to align with parent Category:People from the Kingdom of Prussia and to clarify that this is about the powerful German state of the 18th/19th century. Purge Martynas Mažvydas who migrated to the Duchy of Prussia, in the 16th century a fief of Poland. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:49, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- If this succeeds then yes, I'd probably remove the "features" naming from them as well. I personally think "ability" is vague enough that it can even encompass inherent features like immortality. - The result of the discussion was: rename as per nom. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 18:48, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: The main article is "evocation", but I think that in a fictional context, this name is much more simple and recognizable. It also implies a role rather than just having the power, which would not really be defining in some characters. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 09:38, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Category:Fictional characters with healing abilities
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Fictional superhuman healers. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 18:49, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Category:Fictional physicians - yes, that's defining. But simply having "healing abilities" encompasses everyone who can cast a spell in a JRPG (or in the case of Ana from Overwatch, who can shoot a gun). The only way I can see to save this category is to purge everyone who isn't specifically a healer by trade. Category:Fictional characters with accelerated healing would be purged from the category, as they are not healers in the traditional sense. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 08:37, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose your argument has already been addressed with the opening notice to the category which says " Must be a defining trait - Characters with access to vast powers (i.e. magical spells, advanced technology, genetic engineering, etc.) who are theoretically capable of this superhuman feature or ability - but whom have neither made regular use, nor provided a notable example, of this extraordinary or supernatural feat - are not listed here. " There are categories for so many powers that could have the same issue (ex Category:Fictional characters with fire or heat abilities), but we easily get around that by just limiting to characters in which it's a defining ability. JDDJS (talk to me • see what I've done) 15:11, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- @JDDJS: Therein lies the rub - a character whose healing abilities define them must be a healer, hence the rename. Characters who simply happen to have healing powers, but are not healers, are not defined by said abilities. The current name encourages any character who can heal to be added. The fact is that many of these categories are in need of a rename, but I don't want to bombard everything. (As an addendum, I'd probably rename the mentioned category to Category:Fictional pyrokinetics). ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:18, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- That would be an entirely different scope though because it will no longer limit it to characters who have superpowers. The category is for characters who notably have a superpower to heal others. There aren't even a hundred articles in the cat. We are not actually having any issues with too many characters being added to it. You're creating a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. JDDJS (talk to me • see what I've done) 15:28, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- @JDDJS: Perhaps you'd be open to naming it Category:Fictional superhuman healers, then? The current title doesn't specify the superpowered part, at all. That's part of the problem, and what caused the confusion. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:40, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- I would be neutral on moving it to Category:Fictional superhuman healers. Definitely a much better title than just healers, though I remain in unconvinced that it needs to be moved. If you change it superhuman healers, you have my permission to strike my oppose !vote and replace it with neutral. JDDJS (talk to me • see what I've done) 15:55, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- @JDDJS: If others agree with your assessment, then I will definitely swap it to that. (I still think a "fictional healers" category should exist, so I'd probably just make it separately in that case). ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 16:35, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Comment @User:Zxcvbnm also if you also want to include a conversation about merging Category:Fictional characters with accelerated healing in this discussion, you need to include it your nomination where exactly you want to merge it into, tag the category and your proposal for all of its subcategories (ex: Category:Anime and manga characters with accelerated healing. JDDJS (talk to me • see what I've done) 15:22, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- @JDDJS: Actually it doesn't need to be merged anywhere, I was wrong. It's already in Category:Fictional characters by personal physical abilities which is good enough. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:25, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Fictional characters with death or rebirth abilities. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:23, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: This doesn't seem like a defining ability or trait for a character and comes with a heavy dose of WP:SUBJECTIVECAT - is being able to steal one's soul collecting or destroying it? The exception is with Category:Fictional personifications of death, but we have an older category for that already. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 08:15, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only two subcategories, and they are quite unrelated. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:52, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Delete Just straight up delete. These are about spiritual type abilities and don't necessarily imply the use of magic. It's just a purely wrong cross-categorization in every way, shape and form. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 07:47, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- That is ok as well. We may even upmerge Category:Fictional characters with spirit possession or body swapping abilities to Category:Fictional characters with body or mind control abilities too. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:27, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Delete Both subcategories, one of which is nominated for merger as well, are in other subcategories of Category:Fictional characters by superhuman feature or ability. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 19:38, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Fictional society to Category:Elements of fiction
- Nominator's rationale: I find it very tough to see how this category is necessary - it feels like either WP:SUBJECTIVECAT or WP:OVERLAPCAT. So these things are part of a society, but history, brands and events aren't? ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 06:12, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: The concept of a "wand fighter" makes no sense, as they are magicians who fight with magic, not the wand itself. Of course, it was made by a blocked account. The category is nonsensical and should be deleted. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 05:28, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NARROWCAT, these contain 3 or fewer articles and have been checked with no potential additions found. Very narrow intersection of specific sport+place, created along with others which contain more members so are viable. A few places did not have a Sportsperson parent above them for the ideal upmerge location, but user:Grutness has kindly rectified this over the past week.
