SpaceWERX leverages the three core programs of AFWERX to identify, acquire, and integrate innovative space capabilities into the United States Space Force. Each program supports SpaceWERX’s innovation in space through specific initiatives: 👉 PRIME: Orbital Prime was launched in 2022 to seed advanced technology to accelerate the In-space Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM) mission area, and create favorable market conditions for the emergence of a commercial ISAM marketplace. 👉 VENTURES: SpaceWERX utilizes programs such as Open Topic, STRATFI/TACFI, The Space Force Accelerators Program to work with industry, innovators, and private-capital investors to advance essential space technologies in the U.S. Space Force. 👉 SPARK: Provides platforms through Challenges, Velocity events, Colliders and Reverse Colliders for our Space Force end-users, acquisition professionals, and engineers to collide and innovate with industry and academia. The United States Department of Defense's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) has awarded more than $5 million in funding to further develop GigEagle's AI-powered joint talent marketplace for digital talent. Launched in April 2024 by Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), GigEagle leverages machine learning to rapidly connect skilled personnel with mission-critical roles. “GigEagle and tools that help provide easy access to this talent, from within the Defense Innovation Community of Entities, like AFWERX, Marine Innovation Unit and SpaceWERX, across the Services and components, will be critical in helping to leverage tech with the warfighter focus, speed, and scale for strategic effect,” said Doug Beck, director of DIU. Since GigEagle's pilot iteration, dozens of hiring managers across DoD have successfully secured the right talent for their needs. Supported organizations include the Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve, Space Systems Command, U.S. European Command, Air Force Research Laboratory, and an Intelligence Community agency, among others. “Together, we are transforming how the Department efficiently identifies and applies the right talent against emerging problems,” said United States Air Force Brig. 🔥 AFWERX Spark has wrapped up its 15th Refinery cohort! 🔥 "The Refinery's greatest value lies in bridging that gap – connecting the operational insights of those directly engaging with challenges to the structural and procedural needs of the program office, enabling more effective and timely solutions,” said Erik Kast, Refinery program manager. This cohort featured nine exciting projects, including a Single-Point Nozzle Adaptor that improves fuel sampling time by 75%, and Future-Oriented Resiliency Training, a video game-style tool designed to strengthen decision-making and mental health.
