SpaceWERX leverages the three core programs of AFWERX to identify, acquire, and integrate innovative space capabilities into the United States Space Force. The United States Department of Defense's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) has awarded more than $5 million in funding to further develop GigEagle's AI-powered joint talent marketplace for digital talent. Launched in April 2024 by Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), GigEagle leverages machine learning to rapidly connect skilled personnel with mission-critical roles. “GigEagle and tools that help provide easy access to this talent, from within the Defense Innovation Community of Entities, like AFWERX, Marine Innovation Unit and SpaceWERX, across the Services and components, will be critical in helping to leverage tech with the warfighter focus, speed, and scale for strategic effect,” said Doug Beck, director of DIU. Since GigEagle's pilot iteration, dozens of hiring managers across DoD have successfully secured the right talent for their needs. Supported organizations include the Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve, Space Systems Command, U.S. European Command, Air Force Research Laboratory, and an Intelligence Community agency, among others.  “Together, we are transforming how the Department efficiently identifies and applies the right talent against emerging problems,” said United States Air Force Brig. SpaceWERX, in partnership with United States Space Force, has awarded a STRATFI contract to K2 Space to launch its first Mega Class satellite on a mission code-named "Gravitas” in February 2026. The mission will demonstrate the ability of the Mega Class satellite bus to proliferate across all orbits, with key demonstrations in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO). The groundbreaking mission received support and funding from multiple United States Department of the Air Force organizations, including the Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power PEO, The Space Development Agency, the Space Warfighting Acquisition Delta, the United States Department of Defense's Space Test Program, the Space Force's National Space Test and Training Complex, and the Air Force Research Laboratory.
