PRACTICING PLANT BASED We are living in a time of unprecedented climate change necessitating urgent action. As industry leaders working on a global stage, our collective agenda must be ambitious, evidence-based and exemplar. Morris+Company is passionately committed to this responsibility continuously striving to embed carbon saving practices in every element of our business operations, actioning transformative change in both our work and our practice. Industry, in whatever form, destroys the environment. Each branch of industry with its own particular path to its destructive footprint. The food system is broken, and a massive contributor to the destruction of the natural environment. It is the biggest cause of environmental disease and second only to the energy sector in causing climate change. There is overwhelming evidence that animal agriculture is by far the most damaging contributor to the destructive nature of our food systems, with the production of meat, fish, eggs, cheese, and milk emitting significantly more greenhouse gases than their plant-based equivalents. And not only do we need to urgently address the environmental problems caused by diet, but we need to address the health problems too. As a consequence, as part of our Planet Mark accreditation, and our journey to #BCORP B Lab UK certified, Morris+Company has made a conscious decision to become an entirely Plant Based Practice, in its operations, logistics and its work. We have been championing this directive for over a year, through the residency of EDIT https://www.edit.london our Hyper Seasonal Low Impact restaurant neighbour, which serves complimentary daily plant-based lunches to our team, our guests and visitors, and the resident cohabiters at our HOME of IDEAS; KLH Sustainability Mass Collective Tim George Clementine Blakemore and here we are Yes, it starts with food, but it goes deeper, and we will continue to drive this further as part of our responsibility to the planet, alongside many universities, councils, businesses and institutions across the UK and worldwide, by systematically removing all products and materials from our supply chain and our practice, which contain animal products or derivatives. #PRACTICING_PLANT_BASED #PLANTBASED #PRACTICE #ARCHITECTURE #HOMEofIDEAS

ON UNDERSTANDING FOOD SYSTEMS Remember the story of the blind men and the elephant? Each blind man touching a different part of the elephant gave a unique, yet accurate, description of the creature. Seeking to understand sustainable food systems feels same; like trying to identify where different pieces of the puzzle fit. For each new article I read, conversation I engage in or data I unearth I am reminded that even though accurate, the information is but a piece of the larger puzzle. So with each new piece of information, I subconsciously ask: What part of the elephant am I touching now? What’s my frame of reference? It's often a humbling reminder that what I know is merely a fragment of a more complex whole. But if a sustainable or resilient food system will be achieved, it would not happen by chance. It can only be attained after a true and accurate picture of the whole system has been mapped. #foodsystems #sustainablefoodsystems #foodsystemdesign

Happy World Environment Day! 🌱 At Conscious Food, our journey towards environmental sustainability is more than just a series of practices—it's a story of dedication, innovation, and a deep respect for nature. Our story begins with the soil, the very foundation of our farm. We enrich it using natural fertilizers made from cow dung and urine, a practice that harkens back to ancient agricultural traditions. These natural additives infuse the soil with essential nutrients, fostering healthy plant growth without the need for harmful chemicals. 👩🌾 As our farm grew, so did our knowledge of companion planting—a technique where we strategically plant certain crops together. This method creates a harmonious ecosystem where plants support each other, promoting natural pest control and enhancing soil health. By mimicking nature’s own interactions, we avoid the need for synthetic pesticides and herbicides, keeping our fields toxin-free and safe for all forms of life. Crop rotation became another key chapter in our sustainability story. By changing the types of crops grown in each plot from season to season, we prevent soil depletion and break the cycle of pests and diseases. This ancient practice ensures that our soil remains fertile and our crops robust, year after year. Pest management- Instead of reaching for chemical solutions, we invite nature’s own pest controllers into our fields. Beneficial insects like ladybugs and lacewings help keep harmful pests in check, while natural repellents protect our crops. This eco-friendly approach ensures that we maintain a balanced, healthy ecosystem. As we walk through the farms, we see the fruits of our labor: vibrant crops, buzzing insects, and a landscape that reflects our commitment to sustainability. 🍃 🌏
