It's the end of a great first day at #sxsw2024 ! In a serendipitous turn of events, both the #AI and #Climate tracks were underway today; it's been a pleasure to sit in on sessions from both tracks, here are my highlights: 🌐 Climate Futures: A Simulation of Global Climate Scenarios: Showcasing En-Roads (https://lnkd.in/d6YKj4_a) and the possibilities that good data and thoughtful modeling might be able to bring about when looking to solve the climate crisis and plan a collective future. Ellie Johnston did a phenomenal job leading the session with Benjamin Wolkon 🤖 Navigating the Future of Industries with AI: A star-studded all-women panel shaking up the status quo of how to run a panel (loved it) where they focused on answering tough questions and and asking some in return: What is the best use of AI? Are we asking the right questions? Are we ok with AI being used as a shortcut in a way that skips the important steps of failure and learning? The conversation was refreshingly human-centric and balanced practicalities of our current-state with opportunities for dreaming big. Thank you Haibo E Kate Janssen, CFA Yuelin Li Claire Woodcock for sharing your wisdom and projections! 🤝 Breaking the Cycle: Building Climate-Resilient Communities: An inspiring conversation that included the President of the Navajo Nation, Dr Buu Nygren, Ann Lee of CORE Neil Brockway of the American Red Cross and Brianna Sacks from the Washington Post. The discussion highlighted the shift from cyclical response to continuous response as a result of climate change, the need for survivor-driven assistance provision and many questions around the role and future of media in disaster reporting and how it affects these communities.
