For the Space Innovation folks: Listen to this conversation. No, it isn't about space, but the lessons are even more clear for a technology that you don't know intimately. We hit these issues all the time in the space world. https://lnkd.in/ex8JK7gB How do you see these themes playing in space? Where do you think this framework should not apply to space?

Every once in a few moons I write a newsletter where I share interesting tidbits from the interwebs. This time, we turn our gaze to the future through hopeful experiments. In 2024, my theme of exploration and personal goal has centered around hope and reimagining. This edition is all about that. 🔹 Designing Tech That (Finally) Respects Our Time & Humanity The Calm Tech Institute is setting new standards for technology that respects users' time, attention, and humanity. 🔹 What Does It Mean to Grow an Organization as an Infrastructure of Care? The MAIA team is embedding a culture of care within their organization, recognizing it as a political act essential for collective liberation. 🔹 A RECIPE FOR HOPE Over three months, this Huddle group explored the concept of Hope within the Climate Emergency context. I recently came across Elemental Excelerator’s Commercial Inflection Point Scale (CIP), which is a climate tech-specific scale designed to accurately represent a climate tech company’s trajectory from ideation to mass market adoption. The detailed scale is more relevant than other scales that end at the market introduction stage. It also acknowledges the extra hurdles climate tech companies face on the way to success compared to other types of tech companies. For most climate tech companies a lot of the hard work begins at the market launch point, when they need to accrue significant capital, attract strategic partners and manage complex deployments. As Elemental Excelerator puts it, in the difficult world of climate tech funding, the CIP aims to give founders and investors a common language to make unlocking funding easier and accelerate climate impact. I found this scale really useful when thinking about how the content needs of climate tech companies change as they move through different commercial stages. ➡ If this scale is new to you too, I recommend reading more about it here: https://lnkd.in/eUnr8Tnn

Where Climate meets Deep Tech The HackSummit is heading to Newlab, New York this December 13-14th. And to make the most of the New York ecosystem, this edition will have two key overarching thematics; Climate Deep Tech and Climate Finance. We’ll focus on the solutions that have a direct impact on reducing gigaton scale emissions Through new and novel approaches to manufacturing food, materials and chemicals, creating more energy efficient cities, capturing and reducing emissions at their source. And everything in-between. This isn’t about hardware against software, it’s how and where both can be applied to create the most amount of tangible impact. Ready to join the debate on what's new and next in Climate DeepTech? Head this way 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyyzbYVM

Rethinking the Global Superorganism The global economy has evolved into a dynamic, responsive framework that shapes technology, the environment, and society. It's time to federalize data across borders and sectors to unlock a deeper understanding of this planetary-scale "superorganism." Grounded in ecosystemic thinking, speculative design can uncover innovative pathways to overcome data silos. By envisioning alternative scenarios, we can discover new governance models, data-sharing protocols, and emergent technologies like synthetic data to enhance transparency and equity. Ultimately, this approach can help us cultivate planetary intelligence - guiding the evolution of the global superorganism towards a more sustainable, resilient future for all. Who's ready to rethink the economy and data's role in shaping our shared reality? https://lnkd.in/dyWaCvTr #dataFederalization #planetaryIntelligence #speculativeDesign #sustainability #futureofdata

While the global economy has become a planetary-scale "superorganism," our data remains siloed and fragmented. Without federated insights, we're flying blind into the post-stable climate era, unable to comprehend the true state of our interconnected ecosystems. The 1.5°C target is slipping away, yet we lack the integrated data and systemic understanding to chart an effective course. #dataFederalization #climateResilience #ecosystemCollapse #speculativeDesign #planetaryIntelligence

We kicked off the Deep Tech Climate Innovations Startup Challenge at CES with a Networking Reception, where Victoria Slivkoff invited special guest Dr. Vanessa Z Chan, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Chief Commercialization Officer, Office of Technology Transitions, to a fireside chat. They covered a lot of territory. The theme of the discussion was deep tech and what’s happening in energy and the energy transition. With regard to commercialization and the impact of national sovereignty, how do we develop our internal capabilities and parlay that into economic development? How do we democratize opportunities so the impact and the benefit can be felt by all? How do we mobilize partnership models to commercialize – and scale – deep tech climate innovations? Dr. Chan's insights and comments: ⚡Public and private sectors must merge efforts and find the best ways to bring deep tech climate innovations to the market. ⚡ Energy transition needs to be enabled by the government but led by the private sector. “We need to drive the public-private partnerships to the next level. Nothing is commercialized unless the private sector takes over.” ⚡ How do we help technologies – not just across the DoE’s 17 national labs, but across the nation – get into the hands of the consumer? Time is of the essence. Vanessa sent a clear call to action to the audience, which included #startups, #investors, industry experts and public and private sector #stakeholders. ⌛ “There’s no time to wait. Our kids don’t have time for this. I want you to act now. We just need to move.” Watch the full program of the Deep Tech Climate Innovations Challenge Reception at CES. Or just catch the fireside chat from 14:49-32:55. 👉 https://2ly.link/1w3Cl It’s a fascinating conversation. #deeptech #climatesolutions #energytransition #impact #innovation Young Bill Lars Catherine Secorro Nancy Shail John Cadence Design Systems Nicole 7Analytics Barrow Green, LLC. My Google search history will never be the same but the fun I had writing this paper made it all worth it 💪 In the age of rapid technological development, society finds itself grappling with its relationship with technology. In all of this, Ted Kaczyski arises as an unlikely icon for those dissenting against the perceived dangers of modernity. Check out the article to see the Unabomber's role as a champion of anti-technology ideals in online communities, especially in the age of climate crisis. #digitalmedia #memes #onlinecommunities #climatecrisis #technologicaldeterminism #manifesto
